India: CPI(M) leader stabbed to death in Kerala

Thrissur (Ker), Oct 5 (PTI) A 26-year old local CPI(M) leader was stabbed to death and three others were injured on Sunday night allegedly by a group belonging to right wing outfits including the RSS.

P U Sanoop, a branch secretary of ruling CPI(M), was attacked at around 10.30 pm on Sunday after aminor scuffle, police said.

"Three others, who were with Sanoop were also stabbed and the condition of one person is serious," police officials told P T I.

India: Guj teen's gang-rape: 4th accused held

Jamnagar, Oct 5 (PTI) An absconding accused in the rape of a 17-year-old girl in Jamnagar in Gujarat was held on Monday, a day after three of his alleged accomplices were arrested, police said.

The girl was gang-raped by the four, one of whom was known to her, on September 28 and a police case was filed two days after the incident, after which three people, identified as Buddha Bhatia, Mayur Bhatia and Devkaran Gadhvi, were held.

India: Kanpur Central to be redeveloped with varied facilities

Kanpur: City side of Central station will be redeveloped. Substantiating this vital information, VP Sood, project manager, said that Kanpur Central redevelopment plan would equip with various facilities. The plan has been sent to the Railway Board.

About 80% of the development work will be done on the city side. The numbers of the  passengers entering the station remain more than the Cantt side. It also becomes a reason to consider redevelopment works on this spacious side.

India: Hathras rape-murder case: Priyanka demands removal of DM, probe into his role

Lucknow, Oct 4 (PTI) A day after meeting the family of a Dalit woman who died after she was assaulted and allegedly gang-raped in Hathras, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday demanded removal of the district magistrate and an investigation into his role in the entire matter.

Priyanka Gandhi said that according to the family, the district magistrate meted out the worst treatment to them, and asked who was protecting the officer.

India: 2 more accused of gang-rape held, one at large

Coimbatore, Oct 3 (PTI): Two persons allegedly involved in the gang-rape of a woman (22) in Palladam in nearby Tirupur district were arrested in the early hours of Saturday, police said.

Already, three have been arrested while search was still on for another in connection with the crime that took place on September 28, the police said.

The victim, hailing from Assam and a resident of Coimbatore, lodged a complaint stating that she was raped by five people after being taken to an isolated spot by Rajeev on a motorcycle, they said.

India: SAD seeks SC-monitored probe into Hathras incident

Chandigarh, Oct 3 (PTI) Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal on Saturday sought a Supreme Court-monitored inquiry into the Hathras incident in Uttar Pradesh.

Badal, who had recently snapped ties with the BJP-led NDA, accused the Uttar Pradesh government of discriminating against the victim's family by "forcibly conducting" her last rites.
