Iran, Oman call for expanding cooperation

TEHRAN, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Iran and Oman on Monday called for expanding their cooperation through a guideline strategic document between the two countries, according to the Iranian official news agency IRNA.

The strategic cooperation document would be aimed at improving the relations between the two "brotherly" countries and laying the foundation of a framework for maintaining such relations, according to a joint statement issued by Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Sultan of Oman Haitham bin Tariq Al Said at the end of the latter's two-day visit to Iran.

Iran, Oman ties upgraded to investment cooperation phase: Raisi

Tehran, IRNA - Iranian President Ebrahim Rayeesi has said that Iran and Oman have upgraded their cooperation from a level of simple trade to cooperation on investment projects.

President Raisi made the remarks in a joint meeting between high-ranking Iranian and Omani officials in Tehran on Sunday.

The joint viewpoints and approach for regional convergence of the two countries' leaders along with proper capacities can broaden their cooperation at bilateral and regional levels, he said in the meeting. 

Oman's Sultan in Iran for talks on diplomatic, security issues

28 May 2023; MEMO: Oman's Sultan Haitham bin Tariq al-Said arrived in Tehran on Sunday for a two-day visit expected to focus on regional diplomatic and security issues, Iranian state media reported, two days after Muscat mediated a prisoner swap between Iran and Belgium, reports Reuters.

Oman has long been an interlocutor for the West with Iran and has mediated the release of several foreign citizens and dual nationals.

Iranian FM Calls For Expansion Of Banking Ties With Iraq

TEHRAN, May 27 (NNN-IRNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, made a phone call with his Iraqi counterpart, Fouad Hussein, calling for expanding Iran-Iraq banking relations.

According to a report on Iran’s Foreign Ministry’s website, yesterday, the two sides discussed the latest developments in bilateral ties and highlighted the necessity of improving the gas transfer pipelines from Iran to Iraq.

Iran says Ukraine president drone criticism a bid to secure more Western arms

May 27 (Reuters) - Tehran on Saturday accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy of anti-Iranian propaganda in his call for Iran to halt the supply of drones to Russia, saying his comments were designed to attract more arms and financial aid from the West.

Zelenskiy in a video address on Wednesday called on Iranians to stop their slide into "the dark side of history" by supplying Moscow with drones.

Iran to host Asian Men's Volleyball Championship in August

Tehran, IRNA – The 22nd edition of the Asian Men's Volleyball Championship will be held in the Iranian capital, Tehran, from August 19 to 26, with the participation of 18 teams.

The draw for the competition took place on March 16, and the 18 participating teams were divided into six groups.

In the group stage, teams will compete against each other, and at the end of this stage, the top two teams from each group (a total of 12 teams) will advance to the playoffs. The group winners will face the second-placed teams from other groups, determined by a draw.

Sultan of Oman to arrive in Tehran on Sunday

Tehran, IRNA - Sultan of Oman Haitham bin Tariq is slated to embark on a two-day visit to Iran on Sunday.

Sultan of Oman's visit will take place at the invitation of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, IRNA reported.

President Raisi will officially welcome Sultan Haitahm bin Tariq at Sa'ad Abad Cultural-Historical Complex in Tehran on Sunday evening.

The visit will be carried out within the framework of ongoing consultations between the two countries to discuss various regional and international developments and to enhance diplomatic and economic relations.

Iran does not recognize Afghanistan's ruling group: FM

Tehran, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian says Iran does not recognize the ruling government in Afghanistan, urging the Taliban group to form an inclusive government.

Amirabdollahian made the remarks on Thursday during a meeting between Foreign Ministry officials and Seyyed Hassan Khomeini, the grandson of Imam Khomeini, at the mausoleum of the late founder of the Islamic Republic.

Iranian diplomat returns after 5 years of illegal detention in Belgium

Tehran, IRNA – Assadollah Assadi, a former Iranian diplomat imprisoned in Belgium on false charges, has returned home after five years.

The plane carrying Assadi landed at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Airport on Friday evening local time, IRNA reported.

Earlier on the day, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani had said that the former diplomat had been released from prison and would return home after “five years of captivity.”
