Iraqi PM, French President Call For Ceasefire In Gaza Strip

BAGHDAD, Oct 23 (NNN-NINA) – Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani, and French President, Emmanuel Macron, yesterday called for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, to avoid repercussions for regional and world peace.

During a phone call, the two leaders discussed the rapid developments in the region, due to the ongoing conflict between Palestinians and Israelis, especially the bombing of the Gaza Strip that affects civilians, according to a statement issued by al-Sudani’s media office.

Iraqi PM rejects attacks on bases housing U.S.-led coalition forces

BAGHDAD, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani on Monday rejected attacks targeting the country's military bases housing experts of the U.S.-led coalition forces, according to a statement by al-Sudani's media office.

The statement came a day after an armed group calling itself "The Islamic Resistance in Iraq" claimed responsibility for launching an attack on an airbase housing military experts of the U.S.-led coalition forces in Iraq's western province of Anbar.

China-built gas processing plant contributes to green development of Iraq's oil field

BAGHDAD, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese energy companies have completed the mechanical work for the first associated gas processing plant in the Halfaya oil field, which is located in Iraq's southern province of Maysan.

The plant, expected to be operational in the first half of next year, is part of Iraq's efforts to improve its capacity for processing gas, benefit economically from gas, and reduce carbon emissions.

Turkish Drone Attack Killed Three Kurdish Militants In N. Iraq

BAGHDAD, Oct 15 (NNN-NINA) – A Turkish drone strike in northern Iraq yesterday, killed a senior member and two militants of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), the Counter-Terrorism Service of the semi-autonomous Kurdistan region said, in a statement.

They were killed at 5:30 p.m. local time (1430 GMT), when a Turkish drone attacked their vehicle on a road near the town of Amedi in Duhok province, the statement said.

Iraq's Sadr affirms readiness to send supplies to Gaza

12 October 2023; MEMO: The leader of the Sadrist movement in Iraq, Muqtada Al-Sadr, yesterday asserted that Iraq is ready to send supplies to Gaza.

In a sermon from the city of Najaf, Al-Sadr urged all Arabs, especially Egyptians, to open their borders and break the inhumane siege imposed on the Gaza Strip to allow water and food to reach civilians.

Iraqi al-Nujaba warns US to avoid meddling in war on occupied lands

Tehran, IRNA – Secretary General of the Islamic Resistance Movement of Iraq (Al-Nujaba) Sheikh Akram al-Kaabi has said that any foreign intervention by the United States or any other country against Palestine would face a military response.

In a message on Monday, Al-Kaabi said that if the Zionist enemy tries to expand the circle of battle, drones and missiles of resistance will have the opportunity to act.

Iraq PM to visit Moscow on 10-11 October to meet Putin

04 October 2023; MEMO: Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, will travel to Moscow to meet with Russian President, Vladimir Putin, for a two-day visit on 10-11 October, a government source and another person familiar with the matter told Reuters.

Sudani will depart Iraq on 9 October, meeting with Putin on 10 October  and will hold work meetings on 11 October, the government source said.

Fire rips through Iraqi wedding hall, killing around 100 in shock to Christian community

MOSUL, Iraq (AP) — As they watched the bride and groom start their slow dance, Faten Youssef imagined the future wedding of her son, seated next to her at a reception table. Within moments, however, disaster struck when an inferno erupted that would leave nearly 100 dead in the northern Iraqi wedding hall.

As the dance began, a ring of pyrotechnics machines on the floor released fountains of sparks into the air. As the music played, ceiling panels above the machines burst into flames.

Military Helicopter Crashed In Iraq

BAGHDAD, Sept 26 (NNN-NINA) – An Iraqi military helicopter crashed yesterday, in the eastern province of Wasit, due to a technical problem, wounding two crew members, the defence ministry said.

A statement by the ministry said that, a Bell Jet Ranger helicopter crashed at al-Kut Air Base, while conducting a training mission, resulting in minor injuries to the helicopter crew.

The ministry dispatched a technical team to the scene to investigate the incident, the statement said, without providing further details.

Bus Collision Killed 18, Injured 15 In Central Iraq

BAGHDAD, Sept 3 (NNN-NINA) – A total of 18 people were killed and 15 others wounded, after two buses carrying Shiite pilgrims collided on Friday night, in Iraq’s central province of Salahudin, local sources said yesterday.

One of the buses, heading to the Shiite holy city of Samarra, about 120 km north of Iraq’s capital Baghdad, collided with the other bus returning from the city, a traffic police, who asked to remain anonymous said, adding, the accident took place on the main road near the town of Balad, some 80 km north of Baghdad.
