99.3% of demonetised currency returned to banks: RBI

New Delhi, Aug 29 (PTI) As many as 99.3 per cent of the old 500 and 1,000 rupee notes, that were banned overnight in November 2016, have been returned, the Reserve Bank of India said in its annual report.

Of the Rs 15.41 lakh crore worth 500 and 1,000 rupee notes in circulation before November 8, 2016, notes worth Rs 15.31 lakh crore have been returned.

The "humungous task of processing and verification of specified bank notes (SBNs) was successfully achieved," it said.

Anti Terrorism Squad arrests Avinash Pawar (30) for terror activity

Mumbai, Aug 25; PTI: The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), which is investigating the recent seizure of explosives and arms in the state, has arrested one more person from Ghatkopar here, an official said today.

Avinash Pawar (30) was arrested last night and will be produced before a court today, the official added.

Air India again delays salaries; employees yet to get pay for July

Mumbai, Aug 6 (PTI) Debt-laden Air India has not paid salaries to its employees for the month of July and is yet to communicate the possible date of payments, sources said.

This is at least the fourth time this year that salaries have been delayed. There were delay in payments in March, April, May and June.

The national carrier, which is facing acute financial crunch, is yet to sent out any specific communication on when the payments are likely to made, sources said.

Air India has more than 11,000 permanent staff.

BJP govts at Centre, Maha fooling people: Raj Thackeray

Mumbai, Aug 5 (PTI) Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray today lashed out at the BJP-led governments at the Centre and in Maharashtra, saying they were "fooling people".

Addressing members of MNS' civic unions, he said the governments were announcing schemes worth several "crores and crores of rupees" on a daily basis despite having no money to fill the existing vacancies in various government departments.

BJP govt turning Aadhaar into surveillance tool: Chavan

Mumbai, Aug 4 (PTI) Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan today accused the BJP government of working hand in glove with global tech giants and turning Aadhaar into a surveillance tool.

The senior Congress leader also alleged that in 2016 the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIADI) had asked global tech companies to embed Aadhaar encryption into their technology.

"BJP Government working in cahoots with global tech giants and turning AADHAR into a surveillance tool. Government must come clean," Chavan said in a tweet.
