Pakistan National Assembly rejects supplementary grant to release Punjab election funds

Islamabad, Apr 17 (PTI) The lower house of Pakistan's Parliament on Monday rejected a supplementary demand for Rs 21 billion grant for elections in Punjab despite the Supreme Court's order, deepening the uncertainty over the polls in the politically crucial province and adding to tensions between the government and the judiciary.

Pulwama attack revelations vindicate Pakistan: FO

ISLAMABAD, Apr 16 (APP): The latest revelations made by Satya Pal Malik, the so-called former governor of the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), have once again vindicated Pakistan’s stance on the Pulwama attack of February 2019. 

“His disclosures demonstrate how the Indian leadership has habitually used the bogey of terrorism from Pakistan to advance its sham victimhood narrative and the Hindutva agenda, clearly for domestic political gains,” the Foreign Office Spokesperson said in a statement on Sunday.

Traffic collision kills 7 police officers in Pakistan’s SW

ISLAMABAD (AP) — A head-on traffic collision in Pakistan’s southwest killed seven police officers who were returning home for the Eid holidays, an official said.

They died at the scene of the crash on a national highway in the Khuzdar area of Baluchistan province on Saturday night, according to police official Fahad Khoso.

Khoso said the collision was between the officers’ vehicle and a truck. The seven men had finished a course at police training college.

UAE approves additional USD 1 billion funding to Pakistan

Pakistan is tackling a major economic crisis as it awaits a much-needed USD 1.1 billion tranche of funding from the Washington-based International Monetary Fund, part of a USD 6.5 billion bailout package the IMF approved in 2019.

Pakistan: Imran Khan appears in Lahore HC; gets protective bail for using 'inappropriate language' against Army officers

Lahore, Apr 14 (PTI) Pakistan’s ousted prime minister Imran Khan on Friday appeared before the Lahore High Court (LHC) and secured protective bail till April 26 in a case related to using "inappropriate language" against senior Army officers.

Islamabad police had booked Khan, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief, on April 6 for making a speech in which he allegedly used “inappropriate language against the senior military (Inter-Services Intelligence) officers” and put the lives of their families at risk.

Pakistan Supreme Court orders central bank to provide funds for elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces

Islamabad, Apr 14 (PTI) Pakistan's Supreme Court on Friday directed the central bank to provide Rs 21 billion for elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces after the government failed to provide funds for the polls.

The apex court on April 4 ordered the federal government to provide Rs 21 billion to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) by Monday to enable it to organise polls in Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa provinces.

4 firefighters die in garment factory blaze in Pakistan

KARACHI, Pakistan (AP) — Four firefighters died and nearly a dozen others were injured after a massive fire broke out in a garment factory in the southern Pakistan port city of Karachi, rescue officials and police said Thursday.

The cause of the blaze, which ripped through the factory Wednesday night and eventually caused it to collapse, was not immediately known, police said. Earlier, heavy gray smoke suddenly rose from the factory. Firefighters had almost extinguished the blaze when the collapse occurred.

Pakistan: Govt increases BISP allocation from Rs250 bn to Rs400 bn

ISLAMABAD, Apr 12 (APP):Federal Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety and Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Ms. Shazia Marri was informed that during the last one year, the government has increased the budgetary allocation of Benazir Income Support Programme from Rs 250 billion to Rs 400 billion which is 60% increase in this budget.

She was presiding over a meeting to review the progress of BISP initiatives at its HQ on Wednesday.

ISLAMABAD, Apr 12 (APP):Deputy Governor of Madinah Munwarah, Prince Saud bin Khalid Al-Faisal graced the annual function of Jamia Khairiya for memorization of the Holy Quran, which was organized in honour of 400 Hufaz of the Book of Allah.

The event took place amidst great enthusiasm and religious fervour, said a statement received here on Wednesday.

Banned TTP still using Afghan soil to attack Pakistan: Defence Minister Asif

Islamabad, Apr 11 (PTI) Amid a surge in attacks by the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has said that the banned militant group was still using Afghan soil to carry out attacks inside the country, a media report said on Tuesday.

Asif expressed his concern at the TTP using neighbouring Afghanistan for terrorism in an interview with the Voice of America on Monday, the Dawn newspaper reported.
