‘Iran-Russia cooperation helped undermine US dominance’; Russian intellectuals

Tehran, IRNA – Cooperation between Iran and Russia has helped undermine the dominance of the United States in the world, according a group of Russian intellectuals, academics, Iranologists and researchers who gathered in Moscow to discuss the need to stand up against US bullying in global politics.

The meeting dubbed “New World Order and Confronting Unilateralism” was held in the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Iv Ran).

Russia says to continue seeking answers over Nord Stream explosions

19 Mar 2023; AA: Russia will continue seeking answers over last year's explosions that hit the Nord Stream pipelines despite Denmark's refusal to give access to the probe, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Saturday.

In a comment on the ministry's website, Zakharova said Denmark's decision shows that it "acts on instructions of overseas masters."

Russian president makes surprise visit to Mariupol in Ukraine's Donetsk region

19 Mar 2023; AA: Russian President Vladimir Putin made a surprise visit on Sunday to the city of Mariupol in Ukraine's Donetsk region, which has been under Russian control since last May.

"The head of state inspected several objects of the city, and also talked with local residents," said a statement by the Kremlin.

Russia: Head of Wagner group claims up to 1,200 recruits join its ranks daily

19 Mar 2023; AA: Evgeny Prigozhin, head of the Wagner mercenary group, claimed on Saturday that up to 1,200 new recruits join its ranks every day.

"The result that we are having now, we did not expect it. We have days when we recruit up to 1,200 people a day. An average number fluctuates from 500 to 800," he said on Telegram.

Prigozhin said he expects that by mid-May the number of fighters will increase by 30,000.

Russia says annulment of sanctions, lawsuits in int'l courts a condition for Ukraine settlement

19 Mar 2023; AA: Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on Saturday said annulment of sanctions and lawsuits in international courts against Russia is one of the conditions for settlement in Ukraine.

In a statement on the ministry's website, Zakharova said to achieve "sustainable peace," it is necessary to stop supplying arms and sending mercenaries to Ukraine.

Not so fast: Russian forces block Ukrainian army from leaving Artyomovsk

MOSCOW, March 17. /TASS/: Russian forces are steadily advancing in Artyomovsk (known as Bakhmut in Ukraine) having thwarted the attempted withdrawal of several Ukrainian army units, acting head of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) Denis Pushilin said on Friday.

"We saw that several Ukrainian army units tried to get out of there, but they were thwarted by our forces," he said in an interview with Russia’s Channel One. "The situation is steadily developing toward the liberation of this settlement."

Over 40 African delegations to take part in Russia-Africa parliamentary conference

Nord Stream investigation lacks objectivity without Russia — presidential aide

MOSCOW, March 17. /TASS/: The investigation of Nord Stream pipeline explosions will be biased without Russian participation, aide to the Russian President Yury Ushakov told reporters.

"An absolutely uncooperative position, an uncooperative approach. Certainly, we do not know what investigation Denmark will carry on its own but it will clearly not have enough objectivity," Ushakov said, commenting on the Denmark’s decision to prevent Russia from the investigation. —0—vnk
