Afghan reporter succumbs to injuries received in explosion in Kandahar

MOSCOW, September 25. /TASS/: A reporter of a local TV channel has succumbed to the injuries received in the explosion that occurred near Afghan President Ashraf Ghani’s election campaign headquarters in the town of Kandahar, TV channel 1TV reported on Wednesday.

Yesterday evening a powerful explosion occurred in Kandahar near the building in which a group organizing the election campaign for the current Afghan president is located. Three people, including one teenager, were killed, and seven were hospitalized, including the Afghan TV reporter.

Russian fishing trawler catches fire in Norway’s Tromso

MOSCOW, September 25. /TASS/: A Russian fishing trawler has caught fire in the Norwegian port of Tromso (Troms County), the local police informed on Wednesday.

"Port of Breivik: a fire on a Russian trawler, heavy smoke on site," the local law enforcement stated on its Twitter account.

The NRK channel informed that there are no sailors on board the trawler. The photos provided by the channel suggest that the name of the vessel on fire is "Bukhta Naezdnik." Evacuation of people in the near vicinity of the incident is underway. 

EU countries approve new sanctions on Venezuelan officials

MOSCOW, September 25. /TASS/: European Union countries have approved sanctions against seven more Venezuelan officials, Agence France-Presse reported on Wednesday, citing a diplomatic source.

According to the news agency, the new sanctions will target Venezuela’s intelligence agencies. The source said that "tortures and other human rights violations" were the reason for new sanctions.

Election results declared null and void in 15 polling stations, says top Russian official

MOSCOW, September 25. /TASS/: The results of the September 8 election have been declared invalid in 15 voting stations across six Russian regions, Central Election Commission (CEC) Chairperson Ella Pamfilova said at a CEC meeting on Wednesday.

"As of now, the election results in 15 polling stations in six Russian regions have been declared null and void. These regions include Crimea, the Tuva, Primorsky, Moscow and Oryol Regions, as well as the city of St. Petersburg," she specified.

Putin to Maduro: Russia backs talks between Venezuela's government, opposition

MOSCOW (Reuters) - President Vladimir Putin told his Venezuelan counterpart Nicolas Maduro at talks in Moscow on Wednesday that Russia supported dialogue between the government and opposition to find a way out of Venezuela’s political crisis.

Venezuela’s opposition said earlier this month that a dialogue mediated by Norway to try to resolve the crisis in Venezuela had ended, six weeks after Maduro’s government suspended its participation.

Russian troops fire T-72 tank guns in Tajikistan drills

MOSCOW, September 24. /TASS/: Armored units of Russia’s 201st military base started tactical drills at the Lyaur practice range in Tajikistan, the press office of the Central Military District reported on Tuesday.

"The crews of T-72 tanks performed a march to the area of the drills and started fortifying firing positions, command and observation posts for holding maneuverable defense against a notional enemy’s mechanized units that have overcome mountainous terrain," the press office said in a statement.

Officials discover teen plotting mass school killing in Kirov had conflict with peers

MOSCOW, September 24. /TASS/: A teenager from the Russian city of Kirov who had been planning a mass killing at a school was in conflict with his peers, Kirov Region Ombudsman for Children’s Rights Vladimir Shabardin told TASS on Tuesday.

"The teenager had clashed with his peers. The minor is currently receiving psychological assistance. We are also speaking to his classmates," he said, adding that the adolescent is continuing his education.
