Indian Polls: Owaisi says reports of war within EC worrying

Hyderabad, May 18 (PTI) AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi Saturday said reports of a war within the Election Commission were worrying and emphasised on unanimity of views in the poll panel.

ECI is one of the more trusted public institutions in the country, a 'war within' is extremely worrying. The SC, in TN Seshan case had made it clear that CEC doesnt enjoy a higher status than other ECs & must strive towards unanimity.

Basic Constitutional norms must be respected, he tweeted.

India favourite to win the World Cup: Azharuddin

Hyderabad, May 14 (PTI) Former skipper Mohammad Azharuddin described India as the favourites to lift the ODI World Cup, saying the team has very good bowlers who can win the quadrennial event, which gets underway in England on May 30.

"We have a very good chance. We have a very good team. We have very good bowlers. Lot of people are saying if the wickets are favouring the bowlers, we will find it difficult. But even our bowlers can also get the opposition out. We have got world-class bowlers," Azharuddin, who scored 6215 runs in 99 Tests and 9378 runs in 334 ODIs, said.

India: Man held for rape, murder of 3 minor girls

Hyderabad, Apr 30 (PTI) Days after remains of two minor girls were unearthed, police Tuesday arrested a 28-year old man who allegedly raped and killed them and another girl and buried the bodies in abandoned irrigation wells in a village in Telangana.

M Srinivas Reddy, resident of Hajipur village in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, was arrested Tuesday following his interrogation, police said.

India: Bus goes missing from Hyd'bad bus stand, probe ordered

Hyderabad, Apr 25 (PTI): In a security lapse, a state-owned transport corportion bus parked in the central bus stand here was found missing, corportion officials said Thursday.

The 'Metro Express' bus of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation's Kushaiguda depot was parked at the central bus stand Tuesday night by its driver and found missing Wednesday morning when he returned for duty, they said.

India: Cell-based meat programme gets Central govt funding

Hyderabad, Apr 25 (PTI) The Central government has decided to fund the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) here and the National Research Centre on Meat for research on cell-based meat.

"Now, the government has decided to support this clean meat programme through a project. It's a short-term project.

It will be implemented jointly by CCMB and NRC which is an ICAR institute," CCMB director Rakesh Mishra told reporters here Thursday.

Indian Polls: Owaisi has assets worth Rs 13 crore

Hyderabad, Mar 18 (PTI) AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi, who filed his nomination for Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency on Monday, declared assets worth more than Rs 13 crore.

His immovable assets are worth over Rs 12 crore and movable assets are over Rs 1.67 crore, according to the affidavit submitted by him while filing nomination.

He owns no motor vehicle, but has one NP Bore .22 pistol worth Rs 1 lakh and one NP Bore 30-60 rifle worth Rs 1 lakh.

India: Priyanka has energised Congress 'troops': Salman

India: Owaisi hits backs at Baba Ramdev

Hyderabad, Feb 9 (PTI) AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi Saturday took exception to Yoga guru Baba Ramdev's comments that Lord Ram was the ancestor not only of Hindus, but also of Muslims.

"We are not against anyone's belief. But, it is wrong to thrust your belief on others. Such things are said every time by the Sangh Parivar and RSS. We just want to say that we, Muslims in India, we have become Muslims on our own...," he told reporters here.

India: Telangana govt suspends Dist Collector Syed Omer Jaleel

Hyderabad, Feb 9 (PTI) The Telangana government Saturday suspended the Vikarabad district Collector as per the directive of the of the Election Commission for allegedly unauthorisedly opening a strong room where EVMs used in the recent assembly polls in a particular constituency, were kept.

"The Election Commission has recommended to suspend him...for unauthorisedly opening the strong room (where EVMs were kept) which he was not supposed to do," a senior state government official told PTI.
