India: Married woman raped in UP village

Ballia (UP), Aug 4 (PTI) A married woman was allegedly raped in a village in Sukhpura area here, police said on Tuesday.

The incident took place on the night of August 2 when the woman, aged around 27 years, was asleep and one R Singh (25) entered her house and raped her, SHO Sukhpura Virendra Yadav said.

The FIR was registered on Monday, he said, adding that the woman has undergone a medial examination and police is probing the matter.

No arrests have been made so far, he said.

India: Fake doctor arrested from Greater Noida hospital

Noida (UP), Aug 2 (PTI) A man practicing as a doctor allegedly on forged documents was arrested from a private hospital in Uttar Pradesh's Greater Noida Sunday, police said.

The accused, a resident of Ghaziabad, had got the documents forged in 2017 and was practicing the allopath branch of medicine at the hospital in Bisrakh area, they said.

India: Another terrorist related to Kanpur ambush arrested

Kanpur, Aug 2 (PTI) Another alleged criminal was arrested on Sunday in connection with the Kanpur ambush last month, the Uttar Pradesh police said.

Ram Singh Yadav, a resident of Chaubeypur, was carrying a cash reward of Rs 50,000, Special Task Force Inspector General Amitabh Yash said.

Yadav is being interrogated by a team of senior officers to gain information about those who were behind the ambush, Yash said.

India: UP minister Mahendra Singh tests positive for COVID-19

Lucknow, Aug 2 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh minister Mahendra Singh has tested positive for COVID-19, a state government official said on Sunday.

"He tested positive for COVID-19 around two-three days ago," he said.

The news of Singh, the Jal Shakti minister of Uttar Pradesh, testing positive for COVID-19 comes on a day when Kamal Rani Varun, the lone woman member in the state cabinet, succumbed to the disease.

Uttar Pradesh BJP chief Swatantra Dev Singh has also tested positive for COVID-19.

India: Couple found murdered in UP

Kanpur (UP), Aug 3 (PTI) A couple was found murdered at their home in Rail Bazar area here on Monday and the police is trying to find out if there was an attempt to sexually assault the woman, an official said.

According to the police, Vishnu Nishad (23) was reportedly battered to death, while his wife Sheela (22) was strangled.

The police suspect that there was an attempt to sexually assault the woman as her clothes were in disarray and the household items scattered all over the place, Superintendent of Police (East) Raj Kumar Agarwal said.

India: Intermittent power cuts bring intense ire in Jajmau

KANPUR: Intermittent power failure has brought sharp resentment among the residents in Jajmau area on the second day of the Eid festival.

Some were resenting at the disruption in the electricity supply because the gadgets would ruin in the process of disturbance in electric currents.

Others were annoyed at non-functioning of the lift due to the power break. Those who have to reach the fourth storey in the building were puffing after scaling so many stairs. They felt no remorse in cursing the department concerned.

KANPUR: Like the past years, the festival of Bakrid was also observed traditionally here today. Simplicity marked the occasion. It was a heyday for the butchers who did not compromise with their rate. They even asked for more than normal daily charge.  

What was worth astonishing was the absence of persons who used to collect the goatskins on such a special occasion. 

India: Man held for raping 15-yr-old girl in UP's Muzaffarnagar

Muzaffarnagar, Aug 1 (PTI) Police have arrested one of the three men accused of raping a 15-year-old girl here, an official said on Saturday.

According to an FIR registered in the case, the accused abducted the minor on Thursday when she had gone out of her house to throw garbage in the village dump yard.
