India: Poverty drives 3 sisters end life by jumping before train in UP

Jaunpur (UP), Nov 19 (PTI) Three sisters allegedly ended their lives by jumping before a train here, police said on Friday.

Preeti (16), Kajal (14) and Aarti (11), daughters of late Rajendra Prasad Gautam of Ahiroli village, jumped before Jansadharan Express train at Fattupur railway crossing on the Sultanpur rail section under Badlapur police station limits on Thursday night, City Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar said.

Police suspect that poverty could have driven the siblings to take such an extreme step.

Kanpur: Integrated Command Control Centre (ICCC) will help improve traffic flow, pick up traffic violations and control pollution in the cities, besides a host of other services and utilities.

There are 10 smart cities declared by the Centre, while the state government has named seven cities of the state as smart cities.

Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Aligarh, Jhansi, Bareli, Saharanpur, and Moradabad figure on the list of smart cities in the centre's list.

India: Zika virus expands with 140 cases in Uttar Pradesh

Kanpur: The Zika virus infection has been confirmed among 133 people in the most affected Kanpur.

The number of patients has now increased to five after two more new infected were found in Lucknow on Wednesday.

Apart from this, one patient each has also been found in Kannauj and Unnao. After which the number of Zika infected patients in UP has increased to 140.

On Wednesday, Zika virus infection was confirmed in one patient each in Alambagh and LDA Colony of Lucknow.

Kanpur: In order to strengthen its position at the polling booth level, a strategy will be chalked out during the visit of the BJP national president in UP.

It has reportedly completed the work of formation and verification of committees up to the booth level.

Even the party workers in-charge of individual pages of voters' list in a constituency have also been appointed.

Now these booth committees will be explained their electoral role.

India: Man arrested for raping minor, extortion in UP

Noida, Nov 16 (PTI) A Rampur-based man has been arrested for allegedly raping a minor girl here two years ago after drugging her and photographing the episode, the Noida Police said on Tuesday.

The accused, who is in his early 20s, was held after a complaint was lodged by the mother of the rape survivor on Monday, Gautam Buddh Nagar Deputy Commissioner of Police (Women and Child Safety) Vrinda Shukla said.

India: Man arrested for raping 72-year-old woman in UP

Agra (UP), Nov 16 (PTI) A 52-year-old man has been arrested here for allegedly raping an old woman, police said on Tuesday.

Inspector of Jagdishpura police station Pravindra Kumar Singh said a case has been registered against accused Vikas Sharma while the victim underwent a medical examination.

India: Unnao becomes fourth infected district with Zika virus in UP

Kanpur: Zika has reached Unnao with only one case on Tuesday. He has been sent to the dengue ward in district hospital in Unnao.

Thus it becomes the fourth district after Kanpur, Lucknow and Kannauj.

The Health department officials said that the 35-year-old patient is from Mishra Colony in Shuklaganj.

He travels daily to Kanpur where he works at a thread factory in Lal Bangla in Jajmau area.

A total of 130 Zika virus cases have been reported in Kanpur so far.

India: Green Park will soon have its outstanding museum

Kanpur: The Green Park International Stadium will soon have its museum. The gallery is being developed on the back portion of the director's pavilion.

Divisional Commissioner Raj Shekhar is overseeing the project and organising the development.

A state-of-the-art visitors' gallery will be inaugurated at the museum in a few weeks.

The museum aims to chronicle the significant history of the one-time permanent Test centre.

India: Farmers shouldn't be blamed for air pollution: Tikait

Ghaziabad, Nov 16 (PTI) Bhartiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait on Tuesday said farmers or stubble burning should not be blamed for air pollution, citing a Supreme Court observation.

The Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) national spokesperson, who has been one of the most prominent faces of the protests at Delhi borders against the Centre's farm laws, also demanded an apology from those holding the farming community responsible for pollution woes.

India: Minor raped by family acquaintance in UP

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Nov 15 PTI A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by an acquaintance of her family after he laced their beverage with an intoxicant here, police said.

The incident took place at the victim's residence under Kotwali police station limits in the district on Sunday, they said.

Police have named the accused as Munna, who is absconding, police said.
