India: UP man gets death sentence for killing three daughters

Lalitpur (UP), Nov 13 (PTI) A special court here has sentenced a 35-year-old man to death for killing his three daughters three years ago and also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh.

Assistant government counsel Rakesh Tiwari on Saturday said Special Judge Nirbhay Prakash sentenced Chhidami alias Chhiddu to death in connection with the murder of his daughters Anjani (11), Raddo (7) and Putto (4) at their residence in Veer village under Banpur police station limits on the night of November 13, 2018.

India: Farmers' protests will continue until farm laws repealed: Tikait

Ghaziabad, Nov 11 (PTI) Bhartiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait on Thursday said the farmers' protests will continue till the contentious farm laws are not repealed by the Centre.

Only the repealing of the contentious laws would ensure the end of the protests, the influential farmer leader asserted.

India: 2 UP police officials suspended after Delhi HC wrath

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Nov 12 (PTI) Two Uttar Pradesh Police officials have been suspended after the Delhi High Court pulled up the neighbouring state's police department for illegally arresting a Delhi-based man and his son.

The second son of the Delhi-based man had eloped with a 21-year-old woman from Shamli in Uttar Pradesh and married her against the wishes of her family.

India: Cricket fans awaiting sale of tickets for Nov 25 match

Kanpur: When the cricket fans are excitedly waiting for the opportunity to enjoy an International match at Green Park here after, over a week, they also look uneasy about no factual information on the sale of the ticket for the forthcoming match between India and New Zealand.

India: Rohit Sharma likely to captain Test team on Nov 25 in Kanpur

Kanpur: Rohit Sharma is supposed to be appointed the captain of India’s T20I team. The team think-tank ponders over his role in the Kanpur Test.

A major reason behind this is Rohit’s ever improving credentials as a leader with few even suggesting he should lead across format.

Rohit’s stature means he could very well be assigned the captaincy for the first Test set to be played from November 25 at the Green Park stadium of Kanpur.

India: No need to panic over 100 Zika cases in Kanpur: CM

Kanpur: Assuring people there is no need to panic, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday, took stock of the Zika virus outbreak here.

There has been reported over 100 cases of Zika virus  here since the first case was detected in late October.

With 16 more cases of Zika virus on Wednesday, the total case load in the state has reached 106. 

One patient tested positive from the neighbouring Kannauj district on Saturday.

India: Chief Minister Yogi flags off trial run of Kanpur metro

Kanpur: On Wednesday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath flagged off the trial run of the Kanpur Metro. He said that people will soon have access to the best transport facility here.

In his address at the trial run of the Metro between IIT-Kanpur and Motijheel here, he said, "Within the next four to six weeks, we will be able to complete the process of metro trial and get it launched for Kanpurites by Prime Minister Narendra Modi."

India: SP will sit on dharna against EC if draft electoral roll not given: Akhilesh

Lucknow, Nov 9 (PTI) Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday said his party may go on a sit-in against the Election Commission if it does not provide them the draft voters list before the final publication ahead of the 2022 assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.

The final electoral roll will be published on January 5 next year by the poll body and the SP wants the draft list to be given immediately.

India: Dentist rapes patient after drugging her in UP

Bareilly (UP), Nov 8 (PTI) A dentist allegedly raped a 32-year-old woman after administering an injection which made her unconscious and also shot a video of the incident in the district, police said on Monday.

The dentist was arrested on Sunday, they said.

The victim was suffering from a toothache and had gone to a dental clinic in Saidpur Hawkins locality on October 16 where the dentist told her that her tooth will have to be removed, Superintendent of Police (City) Ravindra Kumar said.

India: Court frames charges against UP minister

Muzaffarnagar, Nov 9 (PTI) A court here framed charges against Uttar Pradesh minister Kapil Dev Aggarwal in two cases, involving charges of the violation of prohibitory orders and rioting.

The court meant to try MPs and MLAs fixed November 23 as the next date of hearing.

The court of Special Judge Gopal Upadhyay farmed charges under Sections 147, 188, 427 and 506 of the IPC.
