Facebook auto-generating pages for Islamic State, al-Qaida

WASHINGTON (AP) — In the face of criticism that Facebook is not doing enough to combat extremist messaging, the company likes to say that its automated systems remove the vast majority of prohibited content glorifying the Islamic State group and al-Qaida before it’s reported.

But a whistleblower’s complaint shows that Facebook itself has inadvertently provided the two extremist groups with a networking and recruitment tool by producing dozens of pages in their names.

UN envoy warns against military escalation in Yemen

UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- The top UN envoy for Yemen on Monday warned that the attack on Saudi oil facilities may drag Yemen into "a regional conflagration."

The sudden military escalation has made the task of finding a political solution to the conflict in Yemen even more compelling, Martin Griffiths told the Security Council in a briefing.

Saturday's attack on Aramco oil facilities in Saudi Arabia has consequences well beyond the region, he warned. "At a minimum, this kind of action carries the risk of dragging Yemen into a regional conflagration."
