Iran blames US sanctions for vaccine payment problems

14 Nov 2020; MEMO: US sanctions are preventing Iran from making advance payment to the global COVAX facility set up to provide COVID-19 vaccines to poorer countries, the Iranian government said as the virus death toll kept climbing in the Middle East's hardest-hit state, Reuters reports.

Battling a third wave of the coronavirus, Iran is considering imposing a two-week total lockdown in the capital, state media reported as the death toll rose by 461, close to a daily record, to 40,582 on Friday.

India: Case against temple priest for refusing rituals for SC family

Hyderabad, Nov 13 (PTI) A case under the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act was registered on Friday against a temple priest in Jangaon district of Telangana for allegedly refusing to perform certain rituals for a family which belongs to Scheduled Caste community, police said.

The family wanted to perform certain ritual and the priest allegedly refused on the grounds of caste, they said.

Following a complaint by the family, the case was registered and due process of law was on, they added.

18% of Gaza's prisoners in Israel jails suffer chronic diseases

13 Nov 2020; MEMO: Head of the Palestinian Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Hassan Quneita announced on Thursday that as many as 18 per cent of Gazan prisoners in Israeli jails suffer chronic diseases such as cancer, diabetes and blood pressure concerns among other ailments.

Israeli settlers meet with UAE businessmen in Dubai

12 Nov 2020; MEMO: A delegation of Israeli settlers from illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank have met with UAE businessmen in Dubai to discuss trade and cooperation opportunities, Israeli media revealed on Wednesday.

The settlers' delegation arrived in the UAE on Sunday for a five-day visit. Yossi Dagan, the head of the settlement council which represents settlements in the northern occupied West Bank, led the delegation.

UAE, Myanmar to establish diplomatic ties

11 Nov 2020; MEMO: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Republic of Myanmar have signed a joint agreement to establish diplomatic relations, WAM reported yesterday.

The agreement was signed by the UAE's permanent representative to the United Nations in New York, Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, and her Burmese counterpart, Kyaw Moi Tun.

Over 1,500 Yemenis killed, injured in 9 months: UN

11 Nov 2020; MEMO: More than 1,500 civilians were killed and injured in Yemen during the first nine months of 2020, the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) for Yemen announced yesterday.

"From January to September 2020 alone, 1,508 civilians were killed or injured in Yemen," the UNHCR office said on Twitter. The humanitarian organisation added that 42 per cent of the victims were women and children.

Israel has to choose between two-states or demographic meltdown: PA

10 Nov 2020; MEMO: Palestinian Authority (PA) Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh said yesterday that Israel has to choose between the two-state solution or a demographic meltdown, Wafa news agency reported.

"The Israeli occupation government must stop its colonial plans and stop seizing our lands and building thousands of settlement units," said Shtayyeh.
