Fresh complaint submitted to ICC over US-Israel war crimes in Palestine

30 June 2020; MEMO: A new request has been submitted to the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate senior officials from the United States and Israel over alleged war crimes committed in Palestine. They include Donald Trump, Benjamin Netanyahu, Mike Pompeo and Jared Kushner.

India: UP Congress leader held in connection with anti-CAA stir

Lucknow, Jun 30 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Congress minority cell chief Shahnawaz Alam has been arrested in connection with violence during a protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act in the state capital last year, police said on Tuesday.

"Alam was arrested from Hazratganj area on Monday night in connection with an FIR registered at the Hazratganj police station in connection with the violent protest during an anti-CAA agitation on December 19 last year. Alam's location was found near the violence spot," a senior police official said.

India: Father hugs dead child, says doctors didn't attend

Kannauj (UP), Jun 29 (PTI) In a heart-wrenching incident caught on tape, parents were seen grieving over the death of their one-year-old child at a government hospital in Uttar Pradesh's Kannauj.

An emotional father was seen clinging to the body of his son Anuj who died of fever after he was brought to the district hospital there for treatment on Sunday night.

Premchand, a resident of Mishripur village in Kannauj district, is heard alleging in the video that no doctor saw his child.

Belgian king expresses ‘deepest regrets’ over DR Congo colonial past

BRUSSELS, June 30 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Belgium’s King Philippe expressed his “deepest regrets” for the harm done during Belgian colonial rule in DR Congo, in a first for his country.

“I want to express my deepest regrets for these wounds of the past whose pain is reawakened today by the discrimination still present in our societies,” Philippe said Tuesday in a letter to Democratic Republic of Congo President Felix Tshisekedi to mark the country’s 60th independence anniversary.

PA President Abbas refuses to accept phone call from Pompeo

29 June 2020; MEMO: Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has allegedly refused to accept a telephone call from US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to discuss Israel’s annexation plan, Israeli General Radio reported on Sunday.

According to Al Quds Al Araby, the intended call came amidst ongoing US-Israeli discussions about the annexation of the occupied Palestinian land.

Egypt: Doctor who criticised PM arrested

29 June 2020; MEMO: Egyptian authorities last week arrested a doctor who criticised the prime minister on Facebook.

Mohamed Moataz Al-Fawal, 39, a radiology lecturer at Zagazig medical school and treasurer of the doctor’s union, requested that Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly apologise for statements he made that ignited outrage among medics.

Last week Madbouly blamed doctors for the worsening covid crisis in the country due to their absence from work, “which, in a way, led to cases worsening and deaths.”
