India: Amarinder welcomes Centre's decision on Sikh black list

Chandigarh, Sep 13 (PTI) Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Friday welcomed the Centre's decision to virtually scrap the controversial 'black list', which he said was totally discriminatory towards the Sikh community.

He said the decision was taken by the Centre, in response to the state government's persistent demand and efforts.

The Centre has removed from its blacklist names of 312 Sikh foreign nationals involved in anti-India activities and only two persons figure in the list now, Union Home Ministry officials said on Friday in the national capital.

India: Names of all NRC applicants published online

Guwahati, Sep 14 (PTI) The names of all NRC applicants have been published online on Saturday, the office of the NRC State Coordinator said here.

The names of all the 3.30 crore applicants as per draft NRC and supplementary list of inclusions and exclusions (final NRC) have been published, an official said.

The final National Register of Citizens (NRC), which was published on August 31, consisted only of supplementary lists.

Maldives Condemns Netanyahu’s Plan To Annex Jordan Valley

MALE, Maldives, Sept 14 (NNN-PSM) – The Maldives government has condemned the statement made by Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, that he plans to annex the Jordan Valley, in the occupied West Bank, if he wins the re-election.

The foreign ministry in a statement, said that, any attempt to annex any part of the occupied Palestinian territories would be a grave violation of international law, including the Geneva Conventions, and would further push back any chance of meaningful dialogue between the parties, towards achieving a lasting peace in the Middle East.

India: Rape accused BJP leader Chinmayanand questioned by SIT

Shahjahanpur (UP), Sep 13 (PTI) BJP leader and former Union minister Swami Chinmayanand has been quizzed by the SIT for around seven hours in connection with a law student's allegation that he raped her, his counsel said on Friday.

The special investigation team, formed on the orders of the Supreme Court, summoned Chinmayanad to the police lines on Thursday night, his counsel Om Singh said.

Later, he was brought back to his residence Divya Dham in Mumukshu Ashram under heavy security, he said.

Egyptian tortured to death in police station

13 Sep 2019; MEMO: A detainee being held at a police station in Giza governorate was beaten to death on Tuesday, reports Masrawy.

The Interior Ministry has denied Karim Al-Khawaja, 45, died at the hands of police and instead say he had a heart attack.

Sources told Masrawy that Al-Khawaja was serving a one-year prison sentence for drug charges but was appealing his sentence.

New Zealand plans further restrictions to gun ownership after Christchurch Whitist terror

WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — Six months after a gunman killed 51 people at two Christchurch mosques, New Zealand’s government is planning further restrictions to gun ownership.

A bill introduced to Parliament on Friday would create a register to track all the guns in the country and require gun owners to renew their gun licenses every five years instead of every 10. It would also place new responsibilities on doctors to notify police if they believe a gun owner shouldn’t have a license due to concerns over the owner’s mental health.

Egypt sentences 11 senior Brotherhood leaders to life for ‘spying for Hamas’

12 Sep 2019; MEMO: Cairo Criminal Court yesterday sentenced 11 senior Muslim Brotherhood leaders, including Supreme Guide Mohammed Badei, to life sentence in prison for alleged spying for Hamas, Quds Press reported.

Former Parliament Speaker Saad al-Katatni, deputy Brotherhood Guide Khairat Al-Shater, Issam Al-Aryan, Mohammed Al-Beltajo were among those sentenced.
