Pehlu Khan case verdict: Shoddy prosecution, says Owaisi

Hyderabad, Aug 14 (PTI) AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Wednesday blamed "shoddy prosecution" for the acquittal of all six accused in the lynching of Pehlu Khan in April, 2017 by a mob for transporting cows.

In most lynchings, the accused were happy being filmed while they lynched a human being. They wanted to be famous for these awful acts, But are we to now believe that no one killed Pehlu Khan? What will this deliberately shoddy prosecution tell his family, he tweeted.

India: All 6 accused in Pehlu Khan lynching case acquitted

Jaipur, Aug 14 (PTI) An Alwar court on Wednesday acquitted all six accused in the lynching of Pehlu Khan, killed two years ago by a mob that set upon him while he was transporting cows.

The Additional Judicial Magistrate acquitted the six men, giving them benefit of the doubt, according to a lawyer.

Pehlu Khan (55), his two sons and a few others were transporting cows when they were allegedly stopped and thrashed by a mob near Behror in Alwar district on April 1, 2017.

India: Hardik, 2 Cong MLAs detained on way to meet Sanjiv Bhatt

Palanpur, Aug 14; GANASHAKTI: Congress leader Hardik Patel, two party MLAs and around 27 of their supporters were on Wednesday detained while they were on way to Palanpur district jail in Gujarat to meet sacked IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt, police said.

Bhatt, who was in June awarded life sentence in a custodial death case, is currently lodged at the Palanpur district jail.

India: Court acquits 2 accused of robbery during Muzaffarnagar riots

Muzaffarnagar, Aug 14 (PTI) A court here acquitted two people accused of robbery during the 2013 communal riots in Muzaffarnagar district, saying the prosecution failed to prove they were guilty.

Additional District Sessions Judge Punam Rajput on Tuesday acquitted Vinod and Jitendra due to lack of evidence. Rajput said the prosecution could not prove their guilt.

India: Demolition of Dalit temple reflects "casteist mentality"

Lucknow Aug 14 (PTI) BSP president Mayawati on Wednesday alleged that the demolition of the Ravidas temple in Delhi's Tughlaqabad area was a result of a collusion between the Centre and Delhi government and reflected a "casteist mentality".

She also demanded that the temple be reconstructed.

India: Shah Faesal sent back to Kashmir from Delhi, detained under PSA in Srinagar

Srinagar, Aug 14 (PTI) Former IAS officer Shah Faesal was detained by authorities at the Delhi airport on Wednesday and sent back to Kashmir, officials said.

Faesal was again detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA) on his arrival in Srinagar, they said.

He was bound for Istanbul, the officials added.
