India: Cong condemns BJP, Yogi over migrant buses issue

New Delhi, May 20 (PTI) The Congress on Wednesday condemned what it termed was "shameless" politics of the BJP and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath over the issue of providing buses for ferrying migrants to the state.

Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi alleged the "Ajay Bisht government" is creating hurdles in the Congress help reaching migrants in terms of buses for ferrying them home as they walk on the roads without food and water in the summer heat of May.

India: Spitting at workplace punishable with fine: Govt

New Delhi, May 19 (PTI) Spitting at workplace will be punishable with fine, the Personnel Ministry has said, citing the national directives for COVID-19 management.

In an order issued to all central government departments, it has asked their heads to ensure strict compliance of this and other directives in this regard.

India’s covid infections surge past 100,000, deaths top 3,000

NEW DELHI, May 19 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Coronavirus cases in India reached 100,000 on Tuesday, matching the number of intensive care unit beds in the country, while the rate of new infections showed little sign of slowing.

India reported 4,970 new cases over the past 24 hours, taking the total from the outbreak to 101,139. Deaths rose by 134 to 3,163.

The number of Indian cases has easily outstripped China, where the virus originated late last year and which has been one of the infection hotspots in Asia.

India: HC directs Delhi government to ensure uninterrupted working of helpline numbers for migrants

New Delhi, May 16 (PTI) The Delhi High Court has directed the AAP government to ensure uninterrupted working of their helpline numbers for migrant workers so that they can approach nodal officers who shall be easily available to labourers.

A bench of Chief Justice D N Patel and Justice C Hari Shankar, which conducted the hearing through video conferencing, noted that the Delhi government is ready and willing to accept the registration of the workers who want to migrate.

Delhi metro to remain shut till May 31

New Delhi, May 17 (PTI) Metro services will remain closed for commuters till May 31, in view of the lockdown extension, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said on Sunday.

The ongoing countrywide lockdown has been extended till May 31, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) announced on Sunday.

In an order, the NDMA said lockdown measures need to be implemented for a further period of 14 days in the country to contain the spread of COVID-19.

India: MHA says states can't dilute Lockdown 4.0 guidelines

New Delhi, May 18 (PTI) The home ministry has said no state or Union Territory will dilute the guidelines issued for the nationwide lockdown that will continue till May 31.

In a communication to the chief secretaries of the states and Union territories, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla said the guidelines for the fourth phase of the lockdown were issued after taking the views of the states, following a video-conference held by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with chief ministers on May 11.

India: Krishi Bhawan employee tests COVID-19 positive

New Delhi, May 18 (PTI) A part of Krishi Bhawan building in Central Delhi has been sealed after an official in the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying has been tested positive for COVID-19.

The official works as a personal secretary in the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying.

Cyclone Amphan Likely To Intensify Into Cyclonic Storm In India

NEW DELHI, May 18 (NNN-PTI) – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) today warned that cyclone Amphan was likely to intensify into an extremely severe cyclonic storm.

“It is very likely to intensify further during the next six hours. It is very likely to move north-northeastwards and move fast across the northwest Bay of Bengal and cross West Bengal-Bangladesh coasts between Digha (West Bengal) and Hatiya Islands (Bangladesh), during the afternoon or evening of May 20, as a very severe cyclonic storm,” reads a statement issued by IMD.
