India: Northeast Delhi anti-pro CAA protest violence: Death toll climbs to 9

New Delhi, Feb 25 (PTI) The death toll rose to nine on Tuesday in the violence over the amended citizenship law that has rocked northeast Delhi, GTB Hospital authorities said.

Four people were declared brought dead by doctors at the hospital on Tuesday, they said.

India: Five killed, about 90 hurt in anti/pro-CAA protest violence

NEW DELHI, Feb 25 (NNN-AGENCIES) — At least five people were killed and about 90 were injured in clashes in the Indian capital during protests over a new citizenship law, a senior hospital official said.

“Some of the people brought in had gunshot wounds,” Dr Rajesh Kalra, additional medical superintendent at the Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, said on Tuesday. 

The clashes erupted between thousands demonstrating for and against the new citizenship law. Police used tear gas and smoke grenades, but struggled to disperse the stone-throwing crowds.

India: Melania Trump visit: Area around Delhi school spruced up

New Delhi, Feb 22 (PTI) All roads leading to a Delhi government school where US first lady Melania Trump is scheduled to pay a visit next week have been repaired, an official said here on Saturday.

According to a senior MCD official, roads and footpaths have been repaired and saplings planted to welcome the first lady.

India: Road at Shaheen Bagh opened by group of protesters

New Delhi, Feb 22 (PTI) A small stretch of the road closed for over two months in Shaheen Bagh due to an anti-citizenship law protest was "opened" by a group of demonstrators on Saturday, though police barricades continued on one side.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) R P Meena said, "Road number 9 in Shaheen Bagh was reopened by a group of protesters, but later it was closed by another group."

However, locals later said the road was again reopened by protesters in the evening.

India: Traffic affected in Khureji Khas due to anti-CAA protest

New Delhi, Feb 23 (PTI) Traffic movement was affected in northeast Delhi's Khureji Khas area on Monday after a large group, comprising mostly women, gathered there to protest against the CAA, police said.

They said the protesters, approximately less than 100 in number, assembled on a stretch leading to the main road of Khureji Khas for a sit-in demanding roll back of the amended anti-citizenship law.

India: Three-tier security in place at hotel for Trump's visit

New Delhi, Feb 21 (PTI) The floor where the Grand Presidential Suite is located at the ITC Maurya here is out of bounds for most hotel staff owing to the elaborate security arrangements being made for the visit of President Donald Trump and his family, sources said.

Trump will stay at the 'Chanakya' suite of the hotel, which has hosted the likes of former US presidents George Bush and Barack Obama.

India: PM hands over 'chadar' for Ajmer Sharif dargah

New Delhi, Feb 21 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday handed over a 'chadar' to be offered at the Ajmer Sharif dargah on the occasion of 808th Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti.

The Prime Minister's Office posted pictures on its Twitter handle of Modi handing over the 'chadar' to a delegation from the Ajmer Sharif Sufi shrine.
