Delhi Uni trend of high cut-offs but shift in popular courses

New Delhi, Jun 28 (PTI) The trend of high cut-offs are nothing new in Delhi University but what seems to have changed since 2015 is the shift in the courses pegging the highest percentage requirement, the varsity's official data shows.

While courses like BSc (Hons) Computer Science and B.Com honours witnessed 100 per cent cut-offs before 2015, the last few years has witnessed courses like B.Sc (honours) electronics, BA programme and BA (honours) political science having high cut-offs.

India: J&K elections to be held as soon as EC gives nod

New Delhi, Jun 28 (PTI) Lok Sabha Friday gave its nod to extend President's Rule in Jammu and Kashmir for another six months beginning July 3, with Home Minister Amit Shah asserting that assembly elections in the state will be held in a democratic, free and fair manner as soon as the Election Commission announces the dates.

He also told Lok Sabha that Article 370 of the Constitution which extends special status to Jammu and Kashmir, is "temporary in nature" and "not permanent".

India: One labourer dead, two missing while cleaning drain

New Delhi, Jun 28 (PTI) One labourer died and two others went missing after they were washed away while cleaning a 30-feet deep drain in west Delhi's Khayala area, police said Friday.

The labourers were swept away and one of them drowned when the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), which had stopped the water flow for cleaning, suddenly started the supply, officials said.

The police said the DJB had given the contract for construction of a cemented wall over the drain to Pratibha Industries.

India: Three-year-old raped by maternal uncle

New Delhi, Jun 28 (PTI) A three-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her maternal uncle in outer Delhi's Paschim Vihar, following which the accused was arrested, police said Friday.

They said the incident took place four days ago.

According to the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), the incident happened when the girl was playing with the accused's six-year-old daughter outside his house.

India: Spate of resignations by Cong office-bearers

New Delhi, Jun 28 (PTI) Several office-bearers of the Congress, including its general secretary in charge of Madhya Pradesh Dipak Babaria and Goa unit chief Girish Chodankar, resigned on Friday, after MP Vivek Tankha quit as the chairman of the party's legal and human rights cell and urged others to follow suit to give a free hand to Rahul Gandhi to restructure the party at all levels.

Both Babaria and Chodankar took the responsibility for the Lok Sabha poll debacle of the party in their respective states.

India: Cong responsible for J&K state of affairs: Amit Shah

New Delhi, Jun 28 (PTI) Home Minister Amit Shah Friday accused the Congress of terrorism in Kashmir and responsible for the state's current situation, alleging that former prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru's decisions were behind India losing one-third of its territory to Pakistan.

He was replying to a debate in the Lok Sabha on the resolution to extend President's rule in Jammu and Kashmir for another six months from July 3.

Shah alleged that the policies of previous Congress governments widened the wedge between the people of Jammu and Kashmir and the country.

India: Centre rejects Delhi gov proposal - free Metro for women

New Delhi; 28 June 2019; GANASHAKTI: Centre on Thursday rejected Delhi government's proposal to make commuting in the city's Metro free for women.

The Centre is learnt to have told Aam Aadmi Party's government in Delhi to look at alternate ways to ensure women's safety and access to transport network - reasons that had been cited by CM Arvind Kejriwal for making Metro rides free.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has a 50:50 sharing ratio between the Centre and the Delhi government.

India: Asian Golf winner Rashid Khan banned from DGC

New Delhi, Jun 27 (PTI) Banned from the Delhi Golf Club, former Asian Games silver-medallist Rashid Khan and his colleagues have been forced to practice at a wasteland on the outskirts of the capital.

A two-time Asian Tour winner, Rashid has been banned by the DGC along with a group of golfers from practising at the course since last January due to disciplinary issues.

To restore his playing rights, Rashid recently handed over a letter to DGC committee member Amit Luthra on June 3, but he is still waiting for a response from the club.

Delhi BJP to enrol teenagers below 18 as primary members

New Delhi, Jun 27 (PTI) The Delhi BJP will enlist teenagers below 18 years of age as "primary members" of the party during its membership drive scheduled to be launched from July 6, senior party leaders said Thursday.

The membership drive was discussed threadbare in a meeting of senior Delhi BJP leaders along with national general secretary (organisation), Ramlal, on Wednesday.
