India: Can seek disqualification of other rebel MLAs too: AAP

New Delhi, Jun 20 (PTI) Days after the AAP approached the Delhi Assembly Speaker seeking disqualification of its two rebel MLAs, the ruling party in the national capital Thursday said it can take similiar action against its other rebel legislators.

The AAP had on June 10 moved a petition in the Delhi Assembly and sought disqualification of its two rebel MLAs -- Anil Bajpai from Bijwasan seat and Devinder Sehrawat from Gandhi Nagar -- who had been openly critical of the party and had joined the BJP on May 3 and May 6 respectively.

India: 4 TDP Rajya Sabha members join BJP

New Delhi, Jun 20 (PTI) Four of the six Telugu Desam Party members of Rajya Sabha Thursday joined the BJP and sought merger of the TDP Legislature Party with the saffron party.

Y S Chowdary, C M Ramesh, Garikapati Mohan Rao and T G Venkatesh met Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu and handed him a letter of a resolution passed by the legislature party urging its merger.

US-India trade war - mulling caps on H-1B visas

United States is considering caps on H-1B work visas to about 15% of the quota for nations that force foreign companies to store data locally.

The warning comes as trade dispute between the US and India has resulted in a recent tit-for-tat tariff actions. India has imposed higher tariffs on some U.S. goods from Sunday in an apparent response to Washington’s withdrawal of a key trade privilege for New Delhi, and a higher tariffs on its steel and aluminum export.

India: Cong to skip all-party meet on simultaneous polls

New Delhi, Jun 19 (PTI) The Congress will skip the all-party meeting convened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the 'one nation, one election' issue as it is opposed to the idea of holding simultaneous Lok Sabha and assembly elections, sources said on Wednesday.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the party's top leaders in the Parliament after consultations with various other parties.

Leaders of a number of other parties have already decided to skip the meeting as a majority of them are opposed to the idea.

India: AN-32 crash: Six bodies retrieved 17 days after crash

New Delhi, Jun 20 (PTI) Bodies of six Air Force personnel and remains of seven others, who died in the AN-32 aircraft crash, have been recovered, official sources said Thursday.

Over the past week, the Indian Air Force was making efforts to retrieve the bodies from the crash site but inclement weather was making it difficult to carry out air operations.

The aircraft had gone missing on June 3 and the wreckage was located on June 11.

India: Rahul says party, not him, will decide on his successor

New Delhi, Jun 20 (PTI) As speculation continues on his next steps, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said his party will decide on who his successor will be and not him.

He is not the person to take a decision on his successor, Gandhi told reporters when asked who will succeed him as Congress president.

Gandhi is adamant on stepping down as party president following the debacle in the elections, but the CWC, the highest decision making body of the Congress, has rejected his offer to resign and asked him to restructure the party at all levels.

India: Simultaneous polls need of the hour: President Kovind

New Delhi, Jun 20 (PTI) Noting that frequent elections in various parts of the country have impacted the pace and continuity of development, President Ram Nath Kovind on Thursday urged parliamentarians to seriously consider the "development-oriented" proposal of holding simultaneous elections to Lok Sabha and state assemblies.

His remarks came a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a brain storming session with heads of 21 political parties on holding simultaneous polls.

India: Bengal MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury is Congress leader in LS

New Delhi, June 18; GANASHAKTI: The Congress on Tuesday named Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, its five-time MP from Bengal’s Berhampore as the leader of the party in the Lok Sabha, a day after the Budget session of Parliament began.

After a lengthy meeting of the Parliamentary Core Committee in the morning at UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi’s house, the party wrote to the secretary general of the Lok Sabha, informing him of its decision of entrusting Chowdhury with the responsibility of taking up all matters of the party in Parliament.

HCL Tech signs multi-year deal with Cricket Australia

New Delhi, Jun 19 (PTI) IT services major HCL Technologies Wednesday said it has signed a multi-year deal with Cricket Australia (CA) to deliver digital experiences to fans, players and employees.

The financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

HCL Tech will help the Australian cricket's governing body provide an elevated and immersive digital experience to cricket fans, players, partners, employees, and volunteers across the country and around the world, through CA's digital offerings, HCL Technologies said in a statement.

India: Modi wishes good health, long life to Rahul Gandhi on his birthday

New Delhi, Jun 19 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday wished good health and a long life to Congress president Rahul Gandhi on his birthday.

Modi took to Twitter to convey his wishes to Gandhi, who turned 49 on Wednesday.

"Best wishes to Shri Rahul Gandhi on his birthday. May he be blessed with good health and a long life," he tweeted.
