HC wants Delhi police to install CCTV cameras in vulnerable areas

New Delhi, Dec 20 (PTI) The Delhi Police on Thursday told the Delhi High Court that the CCTV cameras it plans to install in vulnerable areas of the city will record hi-definition videos and will have facial recognition and number plate identification features.

Taking note of the submission, the High Court directed the police to ensure that CCTV cameras are procured and installed in the 44 vulnerable areas within one year as against the time line of 18 months given by the law enforcement agency.

India: LS to take up triple talaq bill for discussion on Dec 27

New Delhi, Dec 20 (PTI) The Lok Sabha on Thursday agreed to take up for discussion the triple talaq bill on December 27 after the Congress agreed to participate in the debate.

As the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2018, was taken up for consideration, Leader of the Congress in the House, Mallikarjun Kharge, suggested it be taken up for discussion next week.

Parlimentary Affairs Minister Narendra Singh Tomar sought an assurance from the Opposition that it would allow discussion on the bill without disruption on that day.

Dalit body to take out march in Delhi on Thursday

New Delhi, Dec 19 (PTI) The Dalit Shoshan Mukti Manch(DSMM) will take out a 'Parliament March' from Mandi House in the national capital on Thursday to highlight the issues of Dalits and tribals in the country.

The livelihood means of working people, specially the Dalits and tribals, are under attack in rule of BJP at the Centre, alleged DSMM president K Radhakrishnan, and general secretary of the outfit Ramchandra Dom addressing a press conference on Wednesday.

India: Some people in BJP need to speak less, says Gadkari

Mumbai, Dec 19 (PTI) Some people in the BJP need to speak less, Union minister Nitin Gadkari said here Wednesday.

Politicians in general need to be more economical while speaking to media, the senior BJP leader said during an interaction at the Republic Summit.

Asked what prompted the BJP to hold as many as 70 press conferences in a day on the Rafale jet purchase issue, Gadkari said, "We have so many leaders, and we so like to speak before the (TV journalist's) boom, so we have to give them some work."

India: President's rule comes into force in JK from midnight

New Delhi, Dec 19 (PTI) After completion of six months of Governor's rule in Jammu and Kashmir Wednesday, the state will come under President's rule from midnight paving the way for the union cabinet to take all policy decisions related to the militancy-hit state.

President Ram Nath Kovind signed the proclamation for imposition of central rule in the state, which plunged into a political crisis in June after the Mehbooba Mufti-led coalition government was reduced to minority following withdrawal of support by the 25-member BJP in the state.

Huge investment opportunities for Turkish construction firms in India

New Delhi, Dec 18 (PTI) Huge investment opportunities exist in India in various sectors including construction for Turkish companies, Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu said Tuesday.

He said all issues such as trade deficit, raised by Turkey, would be looked upon by India.

"There is a huge potential for Turkish construction companies to operate in India," Prabhu said here at India-Turkey Business Forum meet.

While India's exports to Turkey stood at USD 5 billion, imports were only USD 2.2 billion in 2017-18.

India: Ram temple should be built by mutual consent: Gadkari

New Delhi, Dec 18 (PTI) The Ram temple should be built in Ayodhya through mutual consent, and is not a "communal or religious" issue, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said Tuesday.

The senior BJP leader also said that the issue is linked to India's rich culture, heritage and history.

India: CBI books two corrupt Army officers

New Delhi, Dec 18 (PTI) The CBI has booked two Army officers for allegedly taking bribes of over Rs 82 lakh from a civilian supplier in the procurement of rations for troops posted in Nagaland, officials said Tuesday.

The action has been taken on a complaint from Brigadier Rajiv Gautam posted at the headquarters of the Army's 3 Corps.
