Russia’s coronavirus deaths mark another high

MOSCOW (AP) — The daily number of COVID-19 deaths in Russia hit another high Tuesday amid a surge in infections that forced the Kremlin to order most Russians to stay off work starting this week.

The national coronavirus task force reported 1,106 deaths in 24 hours, the most since the start of the pandemic. The number brought the country’s pandemic death toll to 232,775, Europe’s biggest by far.

Russia registered 36,446 new daily coronavirus cases, slightly fewer compared to the past few days.

UN: Net zero pledges on climate give hope, but still vague

BERLIN (AP) — The United Nations reported Tuesday that fresh pledges by governments to cut greenhouse gas emissions raise hopes but aren’t strict enough to avoid catastrophic global warming.

A report by the U.N. Environment Programme found recent announcements by dozens of countries to aim for “net-zero” emissions by 2050 could limit a global temperature rise to 2.2 degrees Celsius (4 F) by the end of the century.

Taliban waging real war on Islamic State terrorists in Afghanistan, says Russian envoy

German attache in Moscow given a note over Germany’s nuclear deterrence statements

MOSCOW, October 25. /TASS/: The German military attache in Moscow was summoned to Russia’s Defense Ministry where he was handed a note and told that statements by German Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer on nuclear deterrence of Russia provoked tension in Europe, the Russian Defense Ministry reported on Monday.

"Today, on October 25, the defense attache of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in the Russian Federation was invited to the Russian Defense Ministry’s Main International Military Cooperation Department," the statement reads.

Putin requests providing measures to neutralize European energy crisis aftermath in Russia

Turkey has not informed France of ambassador expulsion -French foreign ministry

PARIS, Oct 25 (Reuters) - The French Foreign Ministry said on Monday it had not received any official notification from Turkey that it planned to expel the French Ambassador.

On Saturday, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan told his foreign ministry to expel the ambassadors of the United States and nine other Western countries - including France - for demanding the release of philanthropist Osman Kavala.

French President Macron calls for immediate release of Sudan Prime Minister

PARIS, Oct 25 (Reuters) - French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday condemned the coup attempt in Sudan and called for the immediate release of the Sudanese Prime Minister and civilian members of the government.

Soldiers arrested most of the members of Sudan's cabinet on Monday and a military officer dissolved the transitional government, while opponents of the takeover took to the streets where gunfire and injuries were reported. 

Don't send migrants back to unsafe countries: Pope Francis
