UK: Fastly blames global internet outage on software bug

LONDON (AP) — Fastly, the company hit by a major outage that caused many of the world’s top websites to go offline briefly this week, blamed the problem on a software bug that was triggered when a customer changed a setting.

The problem at Fastly meant internet users couldn’t connect to a host of popular websites early Tuesday including The New York Times, the Guardian, Twitch, Reddit and the British government’s homepage.

EU lawmakers OK virus pass, boosting summer travel hopes

BRUSSELS (AP) — European Union lawmakers on Wednesday endorsed a new travel certificate that will allow people to move between European countries without having to quarantine or undergo extra coronavirus tests, paving the way for the pass to start in time for summer.

The widely awaited certificate is aimed at saving Europe’s travel industry and prime tourist sites from another disastrous vacation season. Key travel destinations like Greece have led the drive to have the certificate, which will have both paper and digital forms, rapidly introduced.

Russia reports over 9,900 daily COVID-19 cases, a new high since mid-March — crisis center

MOSCOW, June 8. /TASS/: Russia confirmed 9,977 COVID-19 cases over the past day, a new high since March 14, bringing the total case tally to 5,145,843, the anti-coronavirus crisis center told reporters on Tuesday.

The number of COVID-19 cases rose by 0.19% in relative terms.

The lowest growth rates were registered over the past day in the Tuva Republic (0.04%), the Magadan Region, North Ossetia, the Republic of Adygea and the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (0.05%).

Moscow condemns bill that doesn’t recognize Russians as Ukraine’s native peoples

MOSCOW, June 8. /TASS/: Russia’s State Duma (lower house of parliament) on Tuesday unanimously adopted a draft statement, condemning Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s bill, which reads that Russians cannot be considered native peoples of the country and calling on inter-parliamentarian institutions and EU member parliaments to oppose this initiative.
