LONDON, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- Britain's main opposition leader, Labour's Jeremy Corbyn, beat off a potential grassroots revolt Monday at the party's annual conference in Brighton.

A bid by delegates to force Labour to back Britain remaining in the European Union (EU) ahead of a likely snap general election failed in a controversial vote in the conference hall.

Conference delegates agreed a Corbyn-backed proposition that will see Labour postponing a decision on Brexit until after a general election.

MADRID, Sept 24 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Spanish police say they have arrested nine people suspected of planning a series of violent attacks for the anniversary of a divisive referendum.

The suspects are described as Catalan separatists by police sources, who say they plotted to strike on Oct 1.

That will be the second anniversary of a Catalan independence referendum declared illegal by Spanish courts.

Bomb-making materials were found during the raids across the semi-autonomous region of Catalonia, police said.

VALLETTA, Sept 24 (NNN-Xinhua) — Germany, France, Italy and Malta have agreed on how to jointly handle migrants who arrive in the Mediterranean.

A migration meeting between the four EU members was held in Malta on Monday. The meeting was mediated by the Finnish presidency of the Council of the EU. European Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos was also present for the migration mini-summit.

CHISINAU, September 23. /TASS/: The majority of Moldovan citizens is against the country's accession to NATO, a poll held by Moldova's Association of Sociologists and Demographers informs.

"45.8% of those polled are against joining the alliance, while 23% support it. 13.2% noted that they would not take part in a referendum on this issue, 13.6% were undecided. The other 4.3% do not know what NATO is and were unable to answer the question," the poll results stated.

MOSCOW, September 23. /TASS/: Oil supplies via the Druzhba pipeline were resumed on Monday after Sunday’s incident with the Polish operator PERN was eliminated, spokesman of Russia's pipeline company Transneft Igor Demin told reporters.

"Supplies via the Druzhba oil pipeline suspended due to the incident with the Polish operator PERN that occurred yesterday at 6:50 p.m. causing a minor oil flow, were resumed today at 04:05 a.m. (Warsaw time)," he said.

MOSCOW, September 23. /TASS/: Iran’s authorities have freed the British-flagged oil tanker Stena Impero, which was detained by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps in the Strait of Hormuz, Sky News Arabia reported on Monday.

Iranian Government Spokesman Ali Rabiei said "legal procedures on releasing the British tanker have been completed." However, he gave no exact date when the vessel would leave Iran’s coast.
