Lucknow, Jun 30 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday issued guidelines for the next phase of the coronavirus lockdown from July 1 to 31 and said all educational institutes will remain closed during the period.

It, however, said online classes will continue in the state.

All schools, colleges and coaching centres will remain closed till July 31, though online classes will continue in the state, UP's Chief Secretary R K Tiwari said in a statement issued here.

Kolkata, Jun 30 (PTI) The West Bengal government has allowed 50 people at marriage functions and funerals during the next phase of the coronavirus lockdown from July 1 to 31.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said morning walks will be allowed from 5.30 am till 8.30 am, provided social distancing and all other norms are strictly followed".

"From now onwards, we will be allowing 50 people both at weddings and last rites," Banerjee said.

Panaji, Jul 1 (PTI) A BJP MLA from Goa has tested positive for coronavirus, a senior state health official said on Wednesday.

The legislator was admitted to Margao-based ESI Hospital, a specially designated facility for COVID-19 patients, after his test came out positive on Tuesday, the official said.

"The MLA is asymptomatic. All those who came in contact with him will be tested," Chief Minister Pramod Sawant told reporters.

Tuticorin, Jul 1 (PTI) The Indian Navy on Wednesday repatriated over 600 Indians from Iran as part of the Centre's "Samudra Setu" mission to evacuate stranded Indian citizens from abroad.

Indian Navy Ship Jalashwa repatriated 687 Indian nationals from Iran and arrived at the VOC Port here today.

It had left Bandar Abbas in Iran on June 25.

Those who arrived on Wednesday hailed from Tamil Nadu and Kerala, officials said.

WASHINGTON, July 1 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The United States recorded 1,199 fatalities from the coronavirus over the past 24 hours, as the country’s death toll began to climb again, the Johns Hopkins University tally showed.

The number of daily deaths had not exceeded 1,000 since June 10.

The country has suffered 127,322 deaths overall, according to the Baltimore-based institution as of 8:30 pm (0030 GMT Wednesday).

The US also registered 42,528 new cases of coronavirus over the past 24 hours.

Bhubaneswar, Jun 30 (PTI) Twenty-nine more BSF jawans have tested positive for COVID-19 in Odisha's Maoist-hit Malkangiri district, a senior official said on Tuesday.

Earlier, nine BS jawans were diagnosed with the disease in Nabrangpur district.

The 29 who tested positive for the virus in Malkangiri had returned from Bihar, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal, Malkangiri District Collector Manish Agarwal said.

New Delhi, June 30 (PTI) The recovery rate of COVID-19 patients in the country is fast approaching 60 per cent, with the Union Health Ministry attributing it to

collective and focussed efforts of the Centre and states for containment and management of the pandemic.

As on date, there are 1,19,696 more recovered patients than COVID-19 active cases.

The number of active COVID-19 cases stands at 2,15,125, while 3,34,821 patients have been cured/discharged. A total of 13,099 COVID-19 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours, the ministry said.

New Delhi, June 30 (PTI) With 18,522 people testing positive for coronavirus in a single day, India's COVID-19 tally climbed to 5,66,840 on Tuesday while the death toll rose to 16,893 with 418 new fatalities, according to the Union Health Ministry data.

Recording nearly 4,000 cases in the last 24 hours, Tamil Nadu has surpassed Delhi to regain the second spot among the list of worst-hit states by the pandemic, while Karnataka also recorded more than 1,100 overtaking Haryana and Andhra Pradesh.

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), June 29 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Beginning today, Malaysians and foreigners entering the country will have to bear the cost of COVID-19 tests which are conducted upon their arrival, said Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said, however, three categories of individuals including differently-abled people (OKU) carrying the OKU card issued by the Social Welfare Department (JKM) would be exempted from paying.

ABUJA, June 30 (NNN-AGENCIES) –– Nigeria said it was allowing children to go back to school to take exams and permitting cross-country travel despite fears over mounting coronavirus infections.

The head of the presidential task force, Sani Aliyu, gave the go-ahead for the “safe re-opening of schools to allow students in graduating classes (to) resume in-person in preparation for examinations”.

A ban on travel between different regions of the country would also be lifted from the start of July, Aliyu said.
