GENEVA, June 30 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The coronavirus pandemic is “not even close to being over”, the WHO warned, as the global death toll passed half a million and cases surged in Latin America and the United States.

In another grim milestone, the number of infections recorded worldwide topped 10 million, while some authorities reimposed lockdown measures that have crippled the economies worldwide.

“We all want this to be over. We all want to get on with our lives,” World Health Organization chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said.

JERUSALEM, June 30 (NNN-MA’AN) – The Israeli Ministry of Health reported 686 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, the highest daily number since Apr 2, taking the tally to 24,441.

The number of death cases increased from 318 to 319, while the number of patients in serious condition increased from 39 to 43 out of 224 patients currently hospitalised.

The number of recoveries rose to 17,218, with 144 new recoveries, while the number of active cases rose to 6,904, the highest since Apr 30.

29 June 2020; MEMO: Iraqi authorities said Sunday 13 doctors have succumbed to coronavirus in the country since February, Anadolu reports.

A further 775 doctors have contracted the virus, Abdulalameer al-Shimmary, head of Iraq’s Doctors’ Association, told Anadolu Agency.

“All doctors are doing their utmost efforts to provide services to patients at the available resources,” he said.

Melbourne, Jun 29 (AP/PTI) Health authorities are using what they describe as a world-first saliva test for coronavirus in Australia's second-largest city where the disease is spreading at an alarming rate.

Officials say 49 people tested positive to COVID-19 in Melbourne on Sunday and only four cases were detected elsewhere in Australia.

Rewa (MP), Jun 29 (PTI) A BJP MLA from Rewa in Madhya Pradesh test positive for novel coronavirus on Monday, district chief medical health officer RS Pandey said.

Three legislators, two from the BJP and one from the Congress, have been detected with the infection this month.

The swab sample of the MLA was collected on Sunday and contract tracing had begun as per protocol, Pandey informed.

The MLA had earlier said he was going into self- isolation after a fellow legislator from Mandsaur tested positive for the virus on June 20.

Mumbai, Jun 29 (PTI) Maharashtra government on Monday said the lockdown in the state is being extended till July 31.

The current lockdown was to end on June 30. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had on Sunday ruled out lifting the lockdown from that date.

An order issued by Chief Secretary Ajoy Mehta on Monday said wearing face covers or masks, maintaining social distancing, restricted gatherings, and other measures shall continue to prevail.

The state government has also advised that work from home should be followed as far as possible.

New Delhi, Jun 29 (PTI) A single-day spike of 19,459 COVID-19 cases took India's tally to 5,48,318 on Monday, while the death toll climbed to 16,475 with 380 new fatalities, according to the Union Health Ministry data

BEIJING, June 29 (NNN-XINHUA) – Nearly 8.3 million residents of Beijing have received nucleic acid tests, as of Sunday noon, since the resurgence of domestically transmitted COVID-19 cases, local authorities said, on Sunday.

Test results from about 7.69 million people have come back so far, said Zhang Qiang, deputy head of the Organisation Department of Beijing Municipal Party Committee.

Zhang said, the city’s daily testing capacity has been expanded to 458,000 samples, from 40,000 on June 11.

LIMA, June 29 (NNN-ANDINA) – The Peruvian Health Ministry reported Sunday, 3,430 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the national tally to 279,419 with a total of 9,317 deaths.

A total of 10,861 people required hospital care, including 1,178 in intensive care units and on ventilators, according to the ministry.

The capital Lima is the hardest hit region, with 156,172 cases of infection.

The Peruvian government said, the nation’s COVID-19 outbreak has reached a plateau, and has begun to reactivate the economy with preventive measures in place.

SINGAPORE, June 29 (NNN-CNA) – The Singapore Tourism Board (STB), said on Sunday that, tourism businesses in Singapore will be permitted to resume operations, at stages, from July 1, beginning with 13 attractions.

The authority said, this is part of the resumption of activities in Phase 2, after the Circuit Breaker, which was imposed by the government from Apr 7 to June 1, to reduce COVID-19 transmission.
