India: Geelani hails release of prisoners by India, Pak

Srinagar, May 15 (PTI) Hardline Hurriyat Conference leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani Wednesday hailed the goodwill gesture by India and Pakistan to release prisoners from their respective jails and called for use of such measures as permanent feature of relations between the two countries.

Thirteen Pakistani nationals, including four fishermen, were repatriated to Pakistan on Tuesday through the Attari-Wagah border.

Last month, Pakistan released 55 Indian fishermen and five civilians as a "goodwill gesture".

3 Kashmiri killed by Indian security forces in Pulwama district of Indian administered Kashmir

Srinagar, May 12: Three Kashmiris have been killed in an alleged encounter with Indian security forces in Pulwama district, an Indian army official said. A civilian and an India soldier were also killed.

The Indian security forces' spokesman alleged that a cordon and search operation in Delipora village of Pulwama was conducted following information about presence of Kashmiris separatists there, a police official said.

2 Kashmiri killed by Indian security forces in Indian administered Kashmir

Srinagar, May 12: Two Kashmiris have been killed in an alleged encounter with Indian security forces in Shopian district, an Indian army official said.

The Indian security forces' spokesman alleged that a cordon and search operation in Hindsitapur area of Shopian district in south Kashmir was conducted following specific information about the presence of Kashmiri separatists there.

Former Pakistani Army soldier arrested along IB in Samba

Jammu, May 9 (PTI) The Border Security Force (BSF) Thursday arrested a former soldier of the Pakistan Army along the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba district, officials said.

The alert troops of the BSF observed some movement along IB near a forward area and nabbed a person moving under suspicious circumstances, they said.

During preliminary investigation, he was identified as Mohmmad Afzal of Shakergarh district of Pakistan.

India: Omar seeks action in journalists bribery case

Srinagar, May 8 (PTI) National Conference leader Omar Abdullah Wednesday said action must be taken in the alleged bribery of journalists by BJP leaders in Leh in Jammu and Kashmir.

"In light of the CCTV footage purported to show BJP leaders attempting to bribe journalists in Leh, I'm retweeting my original tweet with the letter of complaint by the Press Club Leh. Action must follow," Abdullah said in a tweet.

Indian: BJP leaders accused of bribing journalists in Ladakh

Jammu, May 6 (PTI) Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party Monday expressed shock over the allegations levelled by the Leh Press Club against BJP leaders for trying to bribe journalists to influence the parliamentary elections.

On Saturday, the Press Club Leh had accused the BJP of trying to bribe its members by offering "envelops filled with money", a charge denied by the party which said the allegations were "politically motivated".

India: Killing of BJP's Mir big loss for nation: J&K BJP Unit

Jammu, May 5 (PTI) Terming the killing of its leader Gul Mohammad Mir as a big loss for the nation, the Jammu and Kashmir unit of the BJP Sunday said his sacrifice would not go in vain.

Mir, the district vice-president of the party, was shot dead by three militants in his house at Nowgam-Verinag area of Anantnag district late Saturday.

His killing is a big loss to the nation...he was a brave man who always fought against Pakistani terrorists and till the last breath of his life served the motherland, state BJP president Ravinder Raina said.

Three Kashmiris killed by Indian security forces in Indian administered J&K

Three unidentified Kashmiris have been killed by Indian security forces in an alleged encounter in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir, an Indian Army spokesperson said.

An encounter broke out between Kashmiri separatist and the Indian security forces in the Imam Sahib area of Shopian following a cordon and search operation in the early hours, the Indian Army official alleged.
