India: Five more people test positive for Zika virus in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 15 (PTI): Amid concerns of identifying a cluster of Zika virus in the capital city, five more people, including four women, have tested positive for the infection in Kerala, taking the caseload in the state to 28.

Of the fresh cases, two were natives of Anayara here, where a cluster of the disease had been identified within a three kilometre radius, Health Minister Veena George said on Thursday.

India: U'khand govt cancels Kanwar yatra

Dehradun, Jul 13 (PTI) The Uttarakhand government on Tuesday cancelled the Kanwar Yatra in view of the looming threat of a third wave of COVID-19.

"We decided to cancel the yatra, according topmost priority to human life in view of the threat of a possible third wave, the surfacing of the Delta Plus variant of the virus and its impact across the country and abroad," Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said. The decision was taken after a meeting with senior officials and considering all aspects into account including the opinion of medical experts, he said.

U.S. FDA Adds Warning On Johnson & Johnson Vaccine Related To Rare Neurological Disorder

WASHINGTON, Jul 13 (NNN-AGENCIES) – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), added a new warning on the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine yesterday, saying, the vaccine has been linked to a serious but rare side effect called Guillain-Barre syndrome.

Guillain Barre syndrome is a neurological disorder, in which the body’s immune system damages nerve cells, causing muscle weakness and sometimes paralysis, according to FDA.

Malaysia shuts virus-stricken vaccination center

Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) Jul 13 (AP-PTI) Malaysia shut down a mass vaccination center Tuesday after more than 200 medical staff and volunteers tested positive for the coronavirus.

Science Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said it was difficult to determine if the infections occurred at the center, while stressing that swift government action had stopped the cluster.

India's first COVID patient tests positive again for coronavirus

Thrissur(Ker), July 13 (PTI) A woman medico, who was India's first COVID-19 case, has tested positive again for the virus, health authorities said here on Tuesday.

"She is reinfected with COVID-19. Her RT-PCR is positive, antigen is negative. She is asymptomatic," Thrissur DMO Dr K J Reena told PTI.

Her samples were tested as she was prepared to go to New Delhi for study purposes.

Then the RT-PCRresult turned out to be positive, she said.

The woman is presently at home and "she is OK," the doctor said.

Indian Delta variant of COVID-19 spreading worldwide "at scorching pace": WHO chief

GENEVA, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director-general of the World Health Organization (WHO), on Monday warned of the "devastating outbreaks" caused by the Delta variant of COVID-19, saying that the new strain of the virus was infecting people "at a scorching pace."

"Last week marked the fourth consecutive week of increasing cases of COVID-19 globally," Tedros said at a virtual press conference from Geneva, adding that "after ten weeks of declines, deaths are increasing again."

India: Uttarakhand extends COVID-19 lockdown till July 20

Dehradun, Jul 12 (PTI) The Uttarakhand government on Monday extended the coronavirus lockdown imposed in the state by another week till July 20, and authorised district magistrates to cap the number of tourists visiting popular destinations in their jurisdictions on weekends if necessary.

Australia vows financial aid as Sydney lockdown continues

CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — Australian government officials on Tuesday announced added financial support for businesses and households as Sydney appeared increasingly likely to enter a fourth week of lockdown due to coronavirus clusters.

New South Wales state Premier Gladys Berejiklian said she would announce on Wednesday whether Sydney’s 5 million residents would remain locked down beyond the three-week mark on Friday.

She had said the 24-hour record of 122 new cases recorded on Sunday made lifting the lockdown on Friday “almost impossible.”
