Afghanistan: Taliban says was not aware al Qaeda leader in Kabul, warns U.S.

ISLAMABAD/KABUL, Aug 4 (Reuters) - The Taliban on Thursday said the government had no information about al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri "entering and living" in capital city Kabul and warned the United States to never repeat an attack on Afghan soil.

The United States killed Zawahiri with a missile fired from a drone while he stood on a balcony at his Kabul hideout on Sunday, U.S. officials said, in the biggest blow to the militants since U.S. Navy SEALS shot dead Osama bin Laden more than a decade ago. 

Pakistan so far spends $1 bln for war-hit Afghanistan’s reconstruction

ISLAMABAD, Aug 3 (APP): Pakistan has so far contributed $1 billion to support the reconstruction of war-ravaged Afghanistan by building hospitals, schools and roads to manifest its commitment for a prosperous Afghanistan and falsify the impression of using the country as its proxy state.

Since September 2021, over 14,945 tons of humanitarian assistance had been sent to Afghanistan via 694 trucks and four C130 planes under arrangements of Pak-Afghan Cooperation Forum.

Iran, Afghanistan form joint committee to prevent border conflicts

Tehran, IRNA – Iran's president’s special representative on Afghanistan in a message said that the two countries have formed a joint committee aiming to prevent border conflicts.

In his Twitter message, Hassan Kazemi Qomi referred to a meeting held between Iran's envoy and the Defense Ministry of the governing body of Afghanistan, saying that the Afghan defense ministry has put preventing such conflicts at borders on agenda.

10 Afghan security personnel killed in flash flood in Afghanistan's Ghazni province

GHAZNI, Afghanistan, July 30 (Xinhua) -- Flash flood has claimed the lives of 10 security personnel in eastern Afghanistan's Ghazni province, Fazludin Omar Haqqani, the province's director for disaster management and humanitarian affairs, said on Saturday.

A vehicle of security forces was trapped in heavy rain and flash flood in the Qarabagh district of the province on Thursday night, causing the death of the 10 security personnel.

US and Taliban make progress on Afghan reserves, but big gaps remain

KABUL/WASHINGTON, July 26 (Reuters) - U.S. and Taliban officials have exchanged proposals for the release of billions of dollars from Afghan central bank reserves held abroad into a trust fund, three sources familiar with the talks said, offering a hint of progress in efforts to ease Afghanistan's economic crisis.

Significant differences between the sides remain, however, according to two of the sources, including the Taliban's refusal to replace the bank's top political appointees, one of whom is under U.S. sanctions as are several of the movement's leaders.

Blast kills 2 children, injures 10 in Afghanistan's Zabul province

QALAT, Afghanistan, July 26 (Xinhua) -- At least two children were killed and 10 others wounded when an explosive device left over from past wars went off in the country's southern Zabul province on Tuesday, a local official said.

"A group of children found a toy-like object in Mizan district at around noon today and began playing with when the device exploded, killing two on the spot and injuring 10 others," the official told Xinhua but declined to be named.

Flash floods inflict heavy property damages in Afghanistan's Panjshir, Takhar

TALUQAN, Afghanistan, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Heavy rains and flash floods have rendered huge property damages in Afghanistan's Panjshir and Takhar provinces, officials said Friday.

Mohammad Akram, an official with the Disaster Management and Humanitarian Affairs of Panjshir province, said heavy rain and flash flood swept out several gardens, farmlands and bridges in Nawabad and Abrina villages of Abshar district on Thursday night.

Afghanistan's central bank to auction 12 mln USD to keep national currency stable

KABUL, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Afghanistan's central bank Da Afghanistan Bank announced Saturday that it will put on auction 12 million U.S. dollars on Sunday as part of efforts to keep the national currency stable, the state-run Bakhtar news agency reported.

The bidders, including moneychangers and private banks, should deposit the necessary money in cash in afghani as guarantee in the central bank before the auction begins.

Polygamist Killed By Wives In Western Afghanistan

ZARANJ, Afghanistan, Jul 16 (NNN-ANA) – Two of the three wives of a polygamist, killed their husband, in Afghanistan’s western Nimroz province, a provincial official said today.

Director of the Public Relations Office, Bahram Haqmal said, the incident took place in a suburb of Police District 4, of provincial capital, Zaranj city, several days ago.

A statement by Haqmal’s office said, preliminary investigation by the police found the women murdered the husband in conspiracy with their brothers. The police have arrested four persons in the case.

Floods claim 26 lives in Afghanistan's Uruzgan province

KABUL, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Heavy rains and floods have claimed 26 lives in Afghansitan's southern Uruzgan province over the past couple of days, reported a local television channel on Tuesday.

Quoting deputy provincial governor Hekmatullah Muzamel, Tolonews reported that 26 people were killed due to downpour and flood in Khas Urzgan, Chora and Gizab districts of the province.

Scores of houses, shops and farmlands have been utterly washed away or badly damaged due to the flood, the media outlet quoted some villagers as saying.
