Possible radioactive water leak at Japan's crisis hit Fukushima nuke plant

TOKYO, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- The operator of the disaster-hit Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in northeastern Japan said Thursday that radioactive rainwater may be leaking into the ground through an exhaust stack.

According to Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), rainwater leaving the ducts of one of the crippled plant's 120-meter tall exhaust stacks contains high levels of radioactive materials.

U.S. acts becoming law condemned, opposed in Hong Kong

HONG KONG, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- The so-called Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act of 2019 and another related act have become U.S. law, which was strongly condemned and opposed in Hong Kong.

Leung Chun-ying, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said Thursday that he does not believe U.S. congressmen who voted for the acts fully understand the situation in Hong Kong and the passage of the acts is not in the interests of Hong Kong.

S.Korea, Japan to hold trade talks after suspending GSOMIA termination

SEOUL, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- South Korea and Japan agreed to hold director general-level trade talks next month in Tokyo after South Korea's decision last week to suspend the termination of its military intelligence-sharing pact with Japan, Seoul's trade ministry said Friday.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said in a statement that working-level talks between the two sides were held in Seoul on Thursday to prepare for the director general-level dialogue.

Hong Kong police end 12-day siege of university

Police removed a stash of nearly 4,000 gasoline bombs left behind by protesters, who fought pitched battles about two weeks ago with riot officers on surrounding streets.

North Korea: Kim supervises latest weapons test

PYONGYANG, Nov 29 (NNN-AGENCIES) - North Korea’s leader Kim Jong Un supervised Thursday’s test of what it called a “super-large multiple launch rocket system”, Pyongyang’s state media said Friday, hinting that it could be the last in that series.

Pyongyang fired what South Korea described as “unidentified projectiles” on Thursday, as nuclear talks between the North and the United States remain deadlocked.

Asian shares slide on weak Japan data; US markets closed

BEIJING (AP) — Shares extended losses in Asia on Friday after Japan and South Korea reported weak manufacturing data that suggest a worsening toll from trade tensions.

U.S. markets were closed for the Thanksgiving holiday and will have a half-day session on Friday.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 index lost 0.1% to 23,409.14, while the Hang Seng in Hong Kong gave up 0.2% to 26,893.73. The Shanghai Composite index shed 0.6% to 1,597.68 but Australia’s S&P ASX 200 advanced 0.2% to 6,864.00. South Korea’s Kospi slipped 0.4% to 2,118.60. Shares fell in Taiwan and Southeast Asia.

North Korea may deploy ‘super-large’ rocket launcher soon

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korea said Friday the latest test-firing of its “super-large” multiple rocket launcher was a final review of the weapon’s combat application, a suggestion that the country is preparing to deploy the new weapons system soon.

South Korea’s military earlier said North Korea fired two projectiles, likely from the same “super-large” rocket launcher, on Thursday. It expressed “strong regret” over the launches and urged North Korea to stop escalating tensions.

China threatens 'countermeasures' after Trump signs bills supporting Hong Kong protesters

Beijing, Nov 28 (PTI) China on Thursday accused the US of harbouring "sinister intentions" and warned of "countermeasures" after President Donald Trump signed a bill supporting pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong.
