India: Armed forces must be ready to combat hybrid threats: IAF chief

Pune, Nov 7 (PTI) Air Chief Marshal Rakesh Kumar Singh Bhadauria on Saturday said that today's battle-space is "highly complex and multi-dimensional" with unpredictable security scenarios, and the armed forces have to be prepared for hybrid threats emanating from multiple fronts.

He also hailed the creation of the post of Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and Department of Military Affairs (DMA) as the beginning of the "most historic phase of higher defence reforms" in the country.

India: Court rejects police's plea for Arnab's custody, sends him in judicial remand

Mumbai, Nov 4 (PTI) A court at Alibaug in Maharashtra's Raigad district on Wednesday evening remanded Republic TV Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami and two other accused in judicial custody till November 18 in a 2018 abetment to suicide case.

The police had sought Goswami's custody for 14 days, but the court held that custodial interrogation was not required.

Alibaug (Maha), Nov 4 (PTI) Republic TV Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami, arrested on Wednesday for allegedly abetting the suicide of an interior designer, was remanded to judicial custody till Nov 18 by a court here.

The court gave the ruling late in the night.

Goswami has filed for bail and the court has asked the investigation officer to file reply, the journalist's lawyer Gaurav Parkar said.

In the Alibaug court, police had sought a 14-day remand of Goswami, he said.

India: Nobody is above law: Deshmukh on Goswami's arrest

Mumbai, Nov 4 (PTI) Nobody is above the law and the Maharashtra Police will take appropriate action as per the law, state Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said on Wednesday.

His remarks come after Republic TV Editor in-Chief Arnab Goswami was arrested here in the morning for allegedly abetting the suicide of a 53-year-old interior designer in 2018.

"Nobody is above the law and Maharashtra Police will take appropriate action as per law," Deshmukh told reporters here.

Mumbai, Nov 4 (PTI) Republic TV Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami was on Wednesday arrested for allegedly abetting the suicide of a 53-year-old interior designer in 2018, a police official said.

The official said a team of Alibaug police picked up Goswami from his Lower Parel house in the morning. Goswami, who was seen being pushed into the police van, claimed he was assaulted by police at his home, before being taken away.

India: Pawar blames Centre's policies for soaring onion prices

Mumbai, Oct 28 (PTI) NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Wednesday blamed the central government's policies for the spiralling prices of onion and said he would speak to the Centre about the stock limit imposed on the commodity traders.

Traders kept off the onion auction in most of the Agriculture Produce Market Committees in Maharashtra's Nashik district, including at Lasalgaon APMC, Asia's biggest onion market, for the third consecutive day on Wednesday to protest against the Centre-imposed stock limit on the kitchen staple.

India: 4 held for stealing onions worth Rs 2.30 lakh

Pune, Oct 27 (PTI) Amid soaring prices, four people were arrested for allegedly stealing onions worth Rs 2.30 lakh in Junnar in Maharashtra's Pune district, police said on Tuesday.

The theft of 56 bags of the kitchen staple took place in Dingore village and the arrests were made on the basis of CCTV camera footage and leads, a Junnar police station official said.

India: Former head of Shiv Sena's Lonavala unit shot dead in Maha

Pune, Oct 26 (PTI) A 43-year-old former president of a local Shiv Sena unit was shot dead in Lonavala hill town here in Maharashtra on Monday morning, police said.

The incident took place around 10 am when the victim, Rahul Shetty, was outside his tea shop at Jaychand chowk in Lonavala, located about 70 km from the Pune district headquarters, Superintendent of Police Abhinav Deshmukh said.

"There were two persons. One of them fired three rounds at Shetty when he was outside his tea shop," he said.

India: Maharashtra BJP leader Eknath Khadse joins NCP

Mumbai, Oct 23 (PTI) Former Maharashtra BJP leader Eknath Khadse on Friday joined the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in the presence of the party's chief Sharad Pawar.

Sulking since his unceremonious exit from the Devendra Fadnavis-led ministry in 2016 over land grab allegations, Khadse (68) on Wednesday quit the BJP. The same day, state NCP chief Jayant Patil announced he would be joining the Pawar-led party.
