Ara (Bihar), Apr 27 (PTI) A complaint was filed against Rahul Gandhi in a local court on Saturday alleging that the Congress president's slogan 'chowkidar chor hai', which he made people chant at a rally in Samastipur district the previous day, was tantamount to sedition.

The complainant Satyavrat, a local advocate, also named RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, who shared the stage with Gandhi at the rally, as a co-accused in the complaint wherein he has named a couple of news channels and the District Magistrate concerned as witnesses.

Begusarai (Bihar), Apr 25 (PTI) Union minister Giriraj Singh was on Thursday booked for violating model code of conduct by making controversial remarks against the Muslim community at a rally here a day ago where BJP national president Amit Shah, among others, was present.

Begusarai, April 25; GANASHAKTI:  Former JNU Students' Union president and CPI candidate from Begusarai, Kanhaiya Kumar, on Thursday alleged that the rival BJP is trying to spoil his roadshows and is trying to divert the focus of people from him.

"In my rallies, the supporters of the BJP waved black flags at me. I believe that each candidate who is contesting the Lok Sabha has a constitutional right to ask for a vote and do electioneering. Disturbing someone's roadshow is a violation of the law," he added.

Patna, Apr 16 (PTI) Campaign ended on Tuesday for five Lok Sabha seats in Bihar where polling will be held on April 18 in the second phase of general elections.

The five Lok Sabha constituencies are Bhagalpur, Banka, Katihar, Kishanganj and Purnea.

The BJP had fought these five seats unsuccessfully in 2014 and this time its ally JD(U) of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is contesting from those constituencies.

Patna, April 16 (PTI) An FIR was lodged against Congress leader and Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu for violating the model code of conduct by exhorting Muslim voters in a Lok Sabha constituency in Bihar to vote en bloc to defeat Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

According to the office of the Chief Electoral Officer here, the FIR was lodged at Barasoi police station of Katihar district on the basis of a complaint lodged by the Election Commission's flying squad.

SHO Barasoi Chandra Prakash confirmed this.

Patna, April 13 (PTI) Union minister and senior BJP leader Ashwini Kumar Choubey on Saturday stirred fresh controversy as he rubbished RJD leader Rabri Devi's claims of fissures within the NDA in Bihar and said it would be better if she remains in ghoonghat (head covered with sari or dupatta).

Choubey made the statement while reacting to a claim by the former Bihar chief minister that Nitish Kumar had sought a realignment with RJD, which is headed by her husband Lalu Prasad, sometime after dumping it and returning to the NDA.

Patna, Apr 11 (PTI) An estimated 53.06 per cent voter turnout was recorded in four Lok Sabha constituencies of Bihar which went to the polls in the first phase on Thursday, a top election official said.

Altogether 70.52 lakh voters were eligible to exercise their franchise in the four Lok Sabha seats which had 44 candidates in the fray.

Muzaffarpur (Bihar), Apr 10 (PTI) A case has been lodged at a court here against former Jammu and Kashmir chief ministers Farooq Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti over their remarks that abrogating Article 370 and 35A, that grant special status to the state, will lead to its freedom from the country.
