India: Man held for supplying ammunition to Naxal terrorists

New Delhi, Jan 28 (PTI) Delhi Police's Special Cell has arrested a 35-year-old man for allegedly supplying ammunition to the CPI (Maoist) in Bihar's Ara, officials said Monday.

Raj Bahadur alias Raj Kishore, a resident of Kasap village in Ara town of Bihar's Bhojpur district, was carrying a reward of Rs 1 Lakh on his head, police said Monday.

The arrest was made on January 23 after police got a tip-off that Bahadur will visit one of his acquaintance in the Shiv Ganj Colony area of the Ara city, police said.

India: Tejashwi to host Grand Alliance meet in Bihar

Patna, Jan 6 (PTI) The opposition Grand Alliance in Bihar is likely to hold its first formal deliberation on the upcoming Lok Sabha polls during a meeting on Monday at the residence of RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav here.

The meeting is likely to be attended by all constituents of the 'Mahagathbandhan' that comprises the RJD, the Congress, former Union minister Upendra Kushwaha's RLSP, former chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi's HAM and veteran socialist leader Sharad Yadav's LJD.

Tejashwi Yadav is the leader of the opposition in the state assembly.

India: Shatrughan Sinha favours JPC probe in Rafale deal

Patna, Jan 04 (PTI) Disgruntled BJP leader Shatrughan Sinha on Friday favoured setting up a Joint Parliamentary Committee to look into alleged financial irregularities in the Rafale deal, a demand that has been vehemently demanded by the opposition parties led by the Congress.

Deploring the pandemonium that was witnessed in Parliament during the day over the issue, the actor-turned-politician, who represents Patna Sahib Lok Sabha seat, remarked "by suppressing the truth we complicate matters, leading to heated arguments".

India: Court sentences man to 10-years imprisonment for rape

Purnea (Bihar), Jan 5 (PTI) A court here Saturday sentenced a man to 10-years imprisonment for raping a minor girl in June 2014.

The Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADJ-I) K K Sinha also ordered the man to pay a fine of Rs 25,000.

Special Public Prosecutor Nirmala Rani Sah said that the fine amount (Rs 25,000) would be paid to the victim's parents.

The man had raped the minor girl on June 17, 2014 in the vicinity of Janki Nagar village.

Authorities order culling of poultry birds in India's Bihar following bird flu outbreak

NEW DELHI, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- The local government in India's eastern state of Bihar Friday ordered culling of over 15,000 poultry birds following confirmation of bird flu, officials said.

The orders were given by department of animal husbandry in Munger district, about 179 km east of Patna, the capital city of Bihar.

India: Man killed, 10 vehicles torched by Naxal terrorists

Aurangabad, Dec 30 (PTI) One person was killed and 10 vehicles were torched by Maoists in Bihar's Aurangabad district, a senior police officer said Sunday.

Superintendent of Police, Satya Prakash said the Maoists attacked Sudi Bigaha village under the jurisdiction of Deo police station area late on Saturday night and shot dead a man identified as Narendra Singh (55).

Singh is the uncle of Rajan Kumar Singh, who is a member of Bihar Legislative Council, he said.

No clean chit to Modi govt on Rafale from SC: Yechury

Samastipur (Bihar), Dec 22; GANASHAKTI: Senior CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury on Saturday asserted that no clean chit has been given to the Narendra Modi government in the Rafale deal by the Supreme Court, which has "merely stated" that it did not have the jurisdiction to intervene in the matter.

The former Rajya Sabha member said the Opposition has, therefore, been seeking a probe by Joint Parliamentary Committee, but the government appears to be wary of the same.

India: Court convicts RJD MLA, 5 others in rape case

Patna, Dec 15 (PTI) A local court here Saturday convicted suspended RJD MLA- Raj Ballabh Yadav- and five others in a case of rape of a minor girl two years ago.

Special MP & MLA court judge-cum-Additional District and Sessions (ADJ)(IX) Parshuram Yadav convicted the MLA under section 376 of IPC and relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) 2012.

While five other co-accused were also convicted under section 120(B) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

India: Bihar Oppn legislators meet Governor, seek Nitish govt's removal

Patna, Nov 29 (PTI) Opposition legislators in Bihar on Thursday met Governor Lalji Tandon and submitted a memorandum demanding the dismissal of Nitish Kumar government over its "failure" to control law and order in the state.

Members of both Houses of the bicameral legislature, led by Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Tejashwi Yadav, staged a march from the Assembly premises to the Raj Bhavan, located about a kilometre away, and submitted the memorandum.

India: Muzaffarpur shelter home case: CBI arrests quack

Muzaffarpur (Bihar), Nov 20 (PTI) The CBI late on Tuesday arrested a quack from a remote part of the district in connection with the shelter home sex scandal.

Ashwani, who practised quackery in the district's Kurhani block, was arrested and brought to the CBI camp office in the town by the investigating agency following information that he allegedly used to visit the shelter home to administer injections laced with sedatives to the inmates, official sources said.
