India: 175 constables sacked over violence by policemen

Patna, Nov 4 (PTI) As many as 175 police constables, many of them women, were dismissed from service Sunday for indulging in large-scale vandalism and violence here Friday, following the death of a female colleague, a top police official said.

Inspector General of Police (IGP), Patna Zone, Naiyar Hasnain Khan said the dismissed constables included 167 trainees, while others were in service for some time.

India: Bihar Military Police official accused of molestation

Patna, Oct 31 (PTI) An official of the Bihar Military Police was on Wednesday placed under suspension and orders were issued for his arrest after he was accused of molestation by a trainee female constable, a senior BMP official said.

The accused is Shambhu Saran Rathore, a subedar - an inspector rank post - with the BMP-5 .

Director General, Bihar Military Police Gupteshwar Pandey told PTI-Bhasha that departmental action, which may be dismissal from service, will be taken against the accused BMP official based on findings of the probe.

India: Army jawan arrested for taking part in robberies

Muzaffarpur, Oct 26 (PTI) An Army jawan was arrested in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district for taking part in robberies, a senior police officer said Friday.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Manoj Kumar said a police team arrested Army jawan Pushpraj Kumar from Madhopur Susta village on Thursday while he was planning to execute another dacoity.

BJP, JD(U) will contest equal number of seats in Bihar LS polls

New Delhi, Oct 26 (PTI) The BJP and the JD(U) will contest an equal number of seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Bihar, BJP president Amit Shah said Friday.

Other NDA allies, including the LJP and the RLSP, will get due representation in the seat sharing formula, Shah said.

Addressing reporters along with Bihar Chief Minister and JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar, he said the number of seats each ally will get will be announced in the next three-four days.

India: Manjhi flays BJP for changing names of towns,whipping up

Nawada (Bihar), Oct 24 (PTI) Former Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi on Wednesday charged the BJP with trying to divide the people of the country and whip up communal passions by changing names of towns in states ruled by the party.

Manjhi said the Grand Alliance in Bihar, which comprises his Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM), Lalu Prasad's RJD and the Congress, was committed to defeating the BJP in the state and prevent it from returning to power at the Centre.

India: Student gang raped in Muzaffarpur

Muzaffarpur, Oct 22 (PTI) A class nine student has been allegedly gang raped in her home in Bihar's Muzaffarpur town, police said on Monday.

The incident took place at the girl's residence at Imli chowk here on Sunday night, Mithanpura SHO Vijay Prasad Rai said.

Four persons, one of them the owner of a carton factory, forced their way into the girl's house, beat up her family members, tied their hands and gagged them before committing the alleged crime, he said.

Defamation case filed against Rahul Gandhi in Muzaffarpur

Muzaffarpur (Bihar), Aug 25 (PTI) A complaint was filed against Congress president Rahul Gandhi in a court here today seeking registration of a defamation case against him for allegedly tarnishing and lowering the image of the country.

The complaint was filed by advocate Sudhir Kumar Ojha in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Hari Prasad here, which fixed September 4 as the date for hearing the matter.

Woman assaulted by mob, paraded naked in Bihar; 16 arrested, 8 cops suspended

Arrah (Bihar), Aug 21; PTI:  Sixteen persons, including a local RJD activist, have been arrested and eight policemen suspended after a women was assaulted and paraded naked in the state's Bhojpur district by a mob on suspicion of her involvement in alleged murder of a man, officials said today.

Sexual abuse in almost all shelter homes across Bihar: TISS

Patna, Aug 19 (PTI) Sexual abuse, varying in forms and degree of intensity, was prevalent in almost all shelter homes in Bihar, a TISS report made public by the Bihar

government has found.

The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), which had conducted social audit of short stay homes across Bihar, has found certain institutions "stood out in a manner that was appalling".

The state government had commissioned audit by the TISS in 2017 and the report was submitted to the Social Welfare Department in April this year.
