Congress will form next govt in Gujarat: Rahul Gandhi

Dahod (Gujarat), May 10 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday expressed confidence that his party will form the next government in Gujarat, as he attacked the BJP-led central government for creating one India for the rich and one for the poor.

In the BJP model, which has created two Indias, one for the rich and one for the poor, resources of the country belonging to poor people are being given to a few rich people, he said.

India, UK decide to deepen defence, trade ties

New Delhi, Apr 22 (PTI) In the backdrop of the rapid geopolitical turmoil, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his British counterpart Boris Johnson on Friday agreed on a new and expanded India-UK defence partnership and vowed to seal an ambitious free trade agreement by the end of the year.

After his wide-ranging talks with Modi on the second and final day of his India visit, Johnson said the UK is creating an Open General Export Licence (OGEL) for India to "reduce bureaucracy and slashing delivery times" for defence procurement.

India: Modi, Mauritius PM Jugnauth hold `roadshow' in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad, Apr 19 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Mauritian counterpart Pravind Kumar Jugnauth took part in a roadshow here on Tuesday evening after arrival at the Ahmedabad airport.

The two traveled in separate vehicles as people lined up on both sides of the road. The two headed for the Raj Bhavan in Gandhinagar after taking part in the roadshow.

Modi's cavalcade passed first, followed by cars in the Mauritian prime minister's convoy, officials said. Modi, seated in a closed car, was seen waving at the people.

India: BJP has nothing to do with Godse: Gujarat minister

Gandhinagar, Mar 8 (PTI) The BJP or the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has nothing to do with Mahatma Gandhi's assassin Nathuram Godse, Gujarat minister Purnesh Modi asserted in the legislative Assembly on Tuesday, seeking to rebutt Congress accusations that they had a soft corner for Godse.

The minister's assertion came in the backdrop of constant accusations from the opposition Congress that the ruling BJP was soft on Godse.

India: Guj Congress spokesperson Jayrajsinh Parmar quits party

Ahmedabad, Feb 17 (PTI) Gujarat Congress spokesperson Jayrajsinh Parmar resigned from the party on Thursday, claiming the organisation sidelined him for a long time and that it has become a "personal property" of some select leaders who cannot even win polls.

Amid speculations that he may join the ruling BJP in Gujarat, where the Assembly elections are due later this year, Parmar told reporters here that he will share his future plans afterwards.

India: Two get life term minor's gang-rape in Guj

Vadodara, Feb 9 (PTI) A special court in Gujarat's Vadodara city on Wednesday sentenced two men to life until last breath for the gang-rape of a 14-year-old.

The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act court of judge R T Panchal sentenced Kishan Mathasuriya and Jasha Solanki to life till last breath, after finding them guilty of raping the minor.

Special public prosecutor Pravin Thakkar said that the duo was convicted on charges under relevant provisions of the IPC and POCSO Act.

India: Teenage girl gang-raped in Gujarat

Dang, Dec 26 (PTI) Police have arrested six men and detained three minors in connection with the alleged gang-rape a 14-year-old girl in Gujarat's Dang district, an official said on Sunday.

The incident took place around two months back, but came to light recently when a relative of the girl came across a video of the crime on a social media platform. The purported act was recorded by one of the accused on his mobile phone and later circulated on social media, he said.

Ahmedabad, Dec 10 (PTI) The Gujarat High Court has questioned how people could be stopped from "eating what they want" outside their house as it slammed the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) for its drive against handcarts selling non-vegetarian food items on streets.

The HC made the remarks on Thursday while disposing of a petition petition filed by nearly 20 street vendors claiming the AMC's recent anti-encroachment drive was targeted at handcarts selling non-vegetarian food items, an allegation denied by the civic body.

India: Rahul Gandhi appears in Surat court in defamation case

Surat, Oct 29 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday appeared before a magistrate's court in Surat city of Gujarat to record his statement in connection with a criminal defamation case filed against him over his remark on the "Modi surname".

This was the third time the Congress MP appeared before the court in connection with the 2019 case.

The court had on October 26 directed Gandhi to appear before it between 3 pm and 6 pm on October 29 to record his statement.
