India: Kanpur comes to be UP's only place for intra-nasal vaccination trial

Kanpur: This is the only place in the state where intranasal vaccine trials against Covidvirus are being done, as news reports said.

As many as 30 adult volunteers including doctors, their family members and others have administered the first dose of the intranasal vaccine. The second dose will be given after 28 days to the volunteers.

Another 20 people will be administered this vaccine over the next few days.

India sends tow Medical Oxygen Plants to Bangladesh

New Delhi, Aug 31 (PTI) India has sent a consignment of medical supplies to Bangladesh to help the country in its fight against the coronavirus pandemic, officials said on Tuesday.

The Indian Navy's offshore patrol vessel INS Savitri is carrying the supplies to Bangladesh and it is expected to reach the country on Thursday.

Yemen gets first batch of J&J COVID-19 vaccines

29 Aug 2021; MEMO: Yemen received its first shipment of COVID-19 vaccines made by Johnson & Johnson on Sunday, roughly 151,000 doses, the health ministry said, reports Reuters.

The desperately poor country, where health infrastructure has been devastated by six years of war, received 360,000 doses of AstraZeneca's vaccine in March through COVAX.

This shipment is the first batch of a total of 504,000 doses it is set to receive from the United States.

Japan aims for full vaccinations by this fall

Tokyo, Aug 29 (AP-PTI) Taro Kono, the Japanese minister in charge of the vaccine rollout, promised Sunday a timely administering of booster shots for the coronavirus, as the nation aims to fully vaccinate its population by October or November.

He said Pfizer and Moderna booster shots will arrive early next year, in time for medical workers and the elderly, who were prioritised and mostly got their second shots by July.

Japan is aiming for 80% vaccination levels, Kono said on a nationally broadcast Fuji TV show.

India: 166 children among 880 new COVID patients in Mizoram

Aizawl, Aug 29 (PTI) At least 880 more people, including 166 children, tested positive for COVID-19 in Mizoram in the last 24 hours, pushing the tally to 57,522, a health department official said on Sunday.

The death toll rose to 212 as three fresh fatalities due to the infection were reported during the period, he said.

At least 166 children, six health professionals and a Border Security Force jawan were among the new patients, the official said.

India: Rise in COVID cases; Kerala reimposes Sunday lockdown

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 27 (PTI) The Kerala government on Friday decided to continue with Sunday lockdown in view of the rising COVID-19 cases in the state.

The government, facing flak from opposition and public health experts for alleged poor COVID-19 management in the state, tonight issued an order in this regard.

It said lockdown shall be in force on Sundays, with only limited permissible activities.

India: Corona's third wave impact will remain effective till December

Kanpur: The National Institute of Disaster Management and the SUTRA model of IIT-K claimed that the Odisha may report only around 2,000 cases given the current scenario of vaccination.

Deputy Director of IIT-Kanpur Prof Manindra Agrawal said that Odisha has vaccinated more people than the national average.

If the current pace of vaccination continues and all restrictions are lifted, the cases are likely to expand gradually in September and October respectively.

New Zealand has biggest Covid case day in over a year

Wellington, Aug 26 (AP-PTI) New Zealand has reported 68 new community cases of the coronavirus, the largest daily increase since April of last year as an outbreak of the delta variant continues to grow.

The government put the nation into a strict lockdown last week as it tries to stamp out the outbreak, which has grown to a total of 277 infections.

Gandhi has been accusing the BJP government of selling out the country's assets built in the last 70 years, after it announced its asset monetisation pipeline plan.

Israel records highest daily covid death rate since February

25 Aug 2021; MEMO: Twenty-nine people have died of coronavirus in Israel over a 24-hour period, the Ministry of Health announced last night, marking the highest death rate recorded in a single day since February.

Monday's death toll brings the total deaths in Israel due to infection with coronavirus to 6,856, Israel's Kan TV channel said.
