India: Hate speech case against UP Dy CM, 4 others allowed to be dropped

Allahabad, Jun 6 (PTI) A special court for lawmakers here has allowed the Uttar Pradesh government to withdraw a hate speech and assault case against Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya and four of his supporters lodged in Kaushambi district in 2011.

Special Judge Bal Mukund allowed the state government's application to withdraw a case.

Following the court order, the case was dropped against four other accused Vibhuti Narayan Singh, Jai Chandra Mishra, Yashpal Kesari, Prem Chand Chaudhari, who all were on bail.

Delhi Police inspector found dead in car

New Delhi, Jun 6 (PTI) A Delhi Police inspector was found dead under mysterious circumstances in his car in Keshav Puram area here on Saturday, police said.

Inspector Vishal Khanwalkar, 45, was a 1998-batch officer. He was posted at Delhi Police's Special Cell, they said.

At 4.20 pm, police received information regarding an unconscious person lying in a car at Rampura main road in Keshav Puram, following which a team rushed to the spot, they said.

Police took the officer to BJRM hospital where he was declared dead.

Delhi riots: police file chargesheet against 410 people

New Delhi, Jun 6 (PTI) Delhi police have chargesheeted 410 people in 78 cases in connection with the communal violence in northeast Delhi in February, officials said Saturday.

Communal violence had broken out in northeast Delhi on February 24 after citizenship law supporters and protesters clashed with each other in the area, leaving 53 people dead.

Following the violence, the body of Intelligence Bureau staffer Ankit Sharma (26) was found in a drain in Chand Bagh, where he lived.

Police arrested Aam Aadmi Party leader Tahir Hussain in the case.

India: Kanpur IG asks SHO to fine him for not wearing mask then pays Rs 100

Kanpur (UP), Jun 6 (PTI) Setting an example, Inspector General of Police (Kanpur range), Mohit Agarwal, got himself challaned for not wearing a mask in public.

Agarwal asked the Station House Officer (Barra), Ranjeet Singh, to fine him for stepping out without wearing a mask.

The SHO made the challan and handed over a copy to the IG who paid Rs 100 as fine on the spot.

Agarwal later told PTI that he had gone to Barra on Friday for inspection and had stepped out of his vehicle without a mask.

India: Eight-year-old boy sodomised in UP's Muzaffarnagar

Muzaffarnagar, June 7 (PTI) An eight-year-old boy was allegedly sodomised by a man in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district, police said on Sunday.

The boy, who was found unconscious, was undergoing treatment at a local hospital here, SHO HN Singh said.

According to a complaint lodged by the boy's family on Saturday, the minor had taken his goats for grazing in a forest when the accused, identified as Nitu Singh, took him away and allegedly sodomised him.

Ladakh standoff: Indian, Chinese armies agree to resolve issue through talks

India: FIR against sr journalist Vinod Dua on complaint of BJP member

New Delhi, Jun 5 (PTI) Delhi police on Friday said they have registered an FIR against senior journalist Vinod Dua for allegedly "making statements conducing to public mischief" on the complaint of BJP spokesperson Naveen Kumar.

In his complaint to the Crime Branch, Kumar accused Dua of "spreading fake news" through "The Vinod Dua Show" on YouTube.

Dua said, "I have not yet been contacted by the police. I cannot react to it at this point."

India: Tutor arrested for raping minor in Rishikesh

Rishikesh, Jun 6 (PTI) A private tutor was arrested here on Saturday for allegedly raping his minor student.

Parents of the student in their complaint to police said the tutor raped their 16-year-old daughter after showing her obscene videos on his mobile phone, Tehri's Additional SP Uttam Singh Negi said.

A case was registered against the accused, identified as Krishna alias Basu, under Section 376 of the IPC (rape) and the POCSO Act on Friday, he said.
