India: 20-year-old woman raped by neighbour in Muzaffarnagar

Muzaffarnagar (UP), June 4 (PTI) A 20-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a neighbour at pistol-point when she was alone in her house in Muzaffarnagar district, police said on Thursday.

Charthawal police station SHO Sube Singh said a case has been registered based on a complaint filed by the woman's father and the accused arrested.

The woman has been sent for medical examination.

According to a complaint filed by the woman's father, the accused entered into their house on Wednesday when her daughter was alone and raped her at pistol-point.

India: 30 Maharashtra Police personnel died of COVID-19 so far

Mumbai, Jun 4 (PTI) At least 30 police personnel, including an officer, have so far died due to COVID-19 in Maharashtra, while over 2,500 have tested positive for the disease, an official said on Thursday.

Nearly 18 of the total 30 victims were working in the Mumbai Police force and contracted the deadly infection while implementing the lockdown orders, he said.

"Till now, over 2,500 state police personnel have tested positive for the coronavirus and 30 of them, including an officer, have died," the official said.

India: Pune reports third cyclone-related death

Pune, Jun 4 (PTI) A 35-year-old man, who was severely injured in an incident of wall collapse during cyclonic storm 'Nisarga' in Maharashtra's Pune district, died at a hospital here on Thursday, police said.

This is the third cyclone-related death reported in the district.

The cyclone impacted Pune as it moved towards the northern part of the state on Wednesday, battering parts of Khed, Maval Mulshi, Junnar and Ambegaon tehsils.

Pune district had already recorded two cyclone-related deaths on Wednesday.

India's COVID-19 tally reaches 2,16,919 with record spike of 9,304 cases; death toll 6,075

New Delhi, Jun 4 (PTI) Coronavirus cases in India saw a record single-day jump of 9,304 cases on Thursday pushing the total tally to 2,16,919, while the death toll climbed to 6,075 with 260 new fatalities, according to the Union health ministry.

India stood seventh among the nations worst hit by the COVID-19 pandemic after the US, Brazil, Russia, the UK, Spain and Italy.

The health ministry said the number of active COVID-19 cases stood at 1,06,737 while 1,04,106 people have recovered and one patient has migrated.

India: Five Killed, Over 50 Injured In Factory Explosion In Gujarat

NEW DELHI, June 4 (NNN-UNI) – At least five people were killed and over 50 others injured Wednesday, in a massive explosion inside a chemical factory, in India’s western state of Gujarat.

The blast-triggering fire, went off at a plant in an industrial area, in Dahej of Bharuch district, about 254 km south of Gandhinagar, the capital city of Gujarat.

An official posted at Bharuch collectorate office said, “Some of the bodies were found inside the factory, while few others succumbed at hospital.”

India: A Pakistani and two Kashmiris killed in Pulwama dist of Indian Administered Kashmir

Srinagar, Jun 3 (UMMN): A Pakistani and two Kashmiris were killed on Wednesday in an encounter with Indian security forces in Pulwama dist of Indian Administered Kashmir, Indian officials said.

"The killing of Abdul Rehman alias Fauji Bhai alias Fauji Baba, a Pakistani national, is a big success for security forces" Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar told reporters.

India: Rajasthan hikes liquor prices to boost revenue

Jaipur, Jun 3 (PTI) Liquor has become costlier in Rajasthan, with the state government imposing a surcharge of up to Rs 30 to mop up revenue amid the COVID-19 crisis.

The state finance department said the decision has been taken to mitigate natural or man-made calamities like floods, epidemic etc.

India: HC stays appointment of 69,000 UP govt teachers

Lucknow, Jun 3 (PTI) The Allahabad High Court on Wednesday stayed the appointment of 69,000 assistant basic teachers in Uttar Pradesh.

A Lucknow bench of the high court fixed the next of hearing on July 12.

Justice Alok Mathur's order comes days after the Supreme Court sought the UP government's reply on pleas challenging the high court verdict, which had upheld the state's decision to keep higher cut-off marks for these appointments.
