India: BJP youth leader stabbed to death in East Singhbhum

Jamshedpur, Dec 9 (PTI) A BJP youth leader died at a hospital in Jharkhand's East Singhbhum district on Thursday morning after being stabbed with a dagger, police said.

Suraj Kumar Singh (26), the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) general secretary of the district, succumbed to his injuries at the Tata Main Hospital here.

State BJP president Deepak Prakash alleged that criminals are ruling the roost under the JMM government led by Hemant Soren.

Indian Rupee falls by 8 paise to trade at 16-month low

Mumbai, Dec 10 (PTI) The rupee declined further by 8 paise to a fresh 16-month low level of 75.68 in early trade on Friday due to continued foreign found outflows and losses in the stock market.

At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened lower at 75.65 against the previous close of 75.60 and fell further to a low of 75.68, down by 8 paise, in early morning deals.

India: Newly married couple poison themselves in UP

Pratapgarh (UP), Dec 10 (PTI) A newly married couple allegedly killed themselves by consuming poison in this district, police said on Friday.

The incident took place in Sarai Shankar Chiguda village in Kohdaur area, they said.

Nilesh Verma (22) and Roshni (19), who had married six months ago in a temple, allegedly consumed a poisonous substance on Thursday, Circle Officer (CO)Abhay Pandey said.

They were rushed to Prayagraj in a serious condition where they died on Thursday night, he said.

India: Gold ornaments worth Rs 3 cr donated to Tirupati temple

Tirupati, Dec 10 (PTI) A princely offering of a set of gem-studded golden gloves to adorn the divine palms of presiding deity of Lord Venkateswara at the ancient hill shrine in Tirumala here was on Friday made by a devotee as a fulfillment of his vow.

The devotee, a jeweller hailing from this temple city, along with family members, handed over the offering called 'Kati-Hastham' and 'Varada-Hastham' to A Venkata Dharma Reddy, Additional Executive Officer of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) that govern the cash-rich shrine, a temple official told PTI.

India: Police inspector suspended as his video beating a man went viral

Kanpur: Inspector Vinod Kumar Mishra was suspended after a video of him mercilessly thrashing a man holding his child went viral.

In the video, it can be seen that the person being thrashed was repeatedly requesting the police that the child would be hit and might even die.

Yet the policeman was not ready to accept his words. It was reported that the UP Police received severe flak after the video went viral on social media.

Mishra was suspended by the ADG of Kanpur zone.

Water Supplying Network Inaugurated In Afghanistan’s Logar Province

PUL-E-ALAM, Afghanistan, Dec 9 (NNN-ANA) – Construction of a water supplying network has been completed and inaugurated in Pul-e-Alam city, the capital of Afghanistan’s eastern Logar province, the state-run news agency, Bakhtar reported.

Completed at a cost of five million afghani (48,000 U.S. dollars) with the support of the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), the project would provide drinking water to 350 families, the news agency quoted Nematullah Ahmadi, the provincial head for supplying water, as saying.

Afghanistan receives batch of China-donated Sinopharm vaccines

KABUL, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- A batch of COVID-19 vaccines donated by the Chinese government arrived in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, on Wednesday.

A handover ceremony was held at Kabul international airport, attended by Chinese Ambassador to Afghanistan Wang Yu and deputy minister of Afghanistan's Public Health Ministry Abdul Bari Omar.

Since the political situation of Afghanistan has changed, China has announced to donate 3 million doses of vaccines and other medical supplies to Afghanistan, Wang said while addressing the ceremony.

India: Nagaland calls off Hornbill Festival over civilian killings by security forces

Kohima, Dec 7 (PTI) The cabinet of Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Tuesday decided to call off the ongoing Hornbill Festival in protest against the killing of 14 civilians by security forces, official sources said.

The state government has also decided to write to the Centre demanding the repeal of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, they said.

The 10-day Hornbill Festival, the state's largest tourism extravaganza held at Naga Heritage Village in Kisama near the state capital, was scheduled to end on December 10.
