Malaysian Pm Anwar Urges S’pore To Examine Effects Of Reclamation At Batu Puteh

SINGAPORE, Jan 30 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has urged Singapore to examine the reclamations carried out in the Batu Puteh area to ensure they were not affecting the environment and the country’s borders with Malaysia. 

“That must be finalised. I have (Singapore) Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s agreement to hear our arguments in the near future,” he told the Malaysian media at the end of his official visit to the republic Monday.

Malaysia strongly condemns desecration of holy Quran in The Hague

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), Jan 27 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysia has condemned in the strongest terms the latest despicable act of desecrating the Holy Quran by an anti-Islam extremist and far right leader, Edwin Wagensveld, in The Hague, the Netherlands on Sunday (Jan 22). 

Malaysian Foreign Ministry (Wisma Putra) in a statement Friday said Malaysia is appalled that such an Islamophobic act has been repeated within the last few days despite global condemnation. 

“Such bigotry and criminal act committed against Islam must stop immediately,” the statement read.

Malaysia, Brunei explore trade, investment cooperation

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia seeks to explore trade and investment opportunities as Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim caps off his official visit to neighboring Brunei on Wednesday.

Anwar, who is making a two-day visit to the neighboring country, also had an audience with Brunei's Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah followed by a four-eyed meeting in the sultan's official residence.

Malaysian govt will focus on the service sector in Budget 2023

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), Jan 17 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysian government will focus on the service sector in Budget 2023 which will be presented on Feb 24, according to Prime Minister and Finance Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Tuesday.

He said that among the sectors that will be focused on are green technology, digital economy and small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

He said the government policy should also focus on improving the capacity of the SME sector because it has high potential and involves a large number of workers.

Malaysia’s Aerospace, Maritime Exhibition (LIMA) To Make Comeback After Four-Year Hiatus

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 17 (NNN-BERNAMA) – The Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA), will make a comeback this year, following a four-year hiatus, with the event being launched by government officials here yesterday.

Malaysia says it could stop palm oil exports to EU after new curbs

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 12 (Reuters) - Malaysia said on Thursday it could stop exporting palm oil to the European Union in response to a new EU law aimed at protecting forests by strictly regulating sale of the product.

Commodities Minister Fadillah Yusof said Malaysia and Indonesia would discuss the law, which bans sale of palm oil and other commodities linked to deforestation unless importers can show that production of their specific goods has not damaged forests.

News exchange between Cuba and Malaysia will help ignite people-to-people contact – ambassador

Malaysia’s labour market continues recovery, unemployment rate dips to 600,900

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 10 (Bernama) — Malaysia’s labour market is on a steady path to recovery with the unemployment rate in the country showing a downward trend with only 600,900 (persons) in November 2022, compared to 602,000 in October 2022, said the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).

Chief Statistician Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin in a statement Tuesday said the unemployment rate remained at 3.6 per cent, claiming the positive outlook was because of the development of current economic activities in the country. 

Malaysia wants Saudi govt to inform in advance of this year’s haj cost

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 9 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysia has requested Saudi Arabia to inform in advance of this year’s haj pilgrimage cost to ensure good management of Malaysian pilgrims.

In a Facebook post Monday, the Malaysian pilgrimage management and fund board, TH, said the matter was discussed by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Senator Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar and the TH management during a meeting with Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Dr Tawfiq Fawzan Al-Rabiah.

Malaysia, Indonesia eye expansion of trade

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia aims to boost bilateral trade with neighboring Indonesia including cross-border investments in a number of key sectors, a Malaysian official said on Sunday.

Among areas of interest are pharmaceuticals, aerospace, palm-oil processing, consumer goods, as well as defense and security, International Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said in a statement.
