Malaysia’s 2023 palm oil demand to rise 19.85 mln tonnes – Indian vege oil association

KUALA LUMPUR, March 6 (NNN-Bernama) — Demand for Malaysia’s palm oil is forecast to notch higher to 19.85 million tonnes this year from 19.01 million tonnes in 2022 as exports are set to grow to 16.44 million tonnes from 15.73 million tonnes previously.

The remaining demand is expected to come from domestic (2.98 million tonnes) and usage for biodiesel production (440,000 tonnes), said Indian Vegetable Oil Producers’ Association president Sudhakar Desai.

Nine years on, families urge new search for missing Malaysia plane MH370

KUALA LUMPUR, March 5 (Reuters) - Families of those on board Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, which disappeared mysteriously nine years ago, called on the Malaysian government on Sunday to allow U.S. seabed exploration firm Ocean Infinity to mount a new search for the missing plane.

The fate of flight MH370 became one of the world's greatest aviation mysteries when it disappeared en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing on March 8, 2014.

Jailed Malaysia ex-PM Najib acquitted in latest 1MDB trial

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — Malaysian former Prime Minister Najib Razak was acquitted Friday in the latest trial in response to the multibillion-dollar looting of the 1Malaysia Development Berhad state fund.

Najib, who is serving a 12-year prison term after losing the final appeal in his first of several corruption trials linked to the 1MDB scandal, was found not guilty on the charge of tampering with an audit report to cover up wrongdoings.

Malaysia Invites Thailand To Become Cpopc Member

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 28 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysia has invited Thailand to join the Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries (CPOPC) as a member to create a stronger voice to address discriminatory protectionist measures against palm oil and rubber producers at the Asean level.

Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof, who is also Plantation and Commodities Minister, said that with Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand joining forces, they could speak with a bigger and louder voice.

Rm20 Million In Humanitarian Aid From Malaysia To Turkiye And Syria So Far – Pm Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 14 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysia joins rest of the world contributing humanitarian aid with a RM20 million pledged to help earthquake victims in Turkiye and Syria.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the contribution included US$1 million each from the Malaysian government and the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, with the remaining donations from various parties, including local companies.

Analysts Expect Malaysia’s Crude Palm Oil Prices To Ease This Year

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 13 (NNN-BERNAMA) – Crude palm oil (CPO) prices in Malaysia, are projected to ease this year, on stocks normalisation, analysts have foreseen today.

MIDF Research said in a note that, it expects Malaysian local delivery prices for CPO to be lower this year, ranging between 3,000 ringgit (687.76 U.S. dollars) and 4,000 ringgit, on expectation of normalisation closing stocks of two million tonnes to 2.1 million tonnes.

Tourist vehicle crash kills 6 in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- A fatal crash involving a tourist van left six people dead near Genting Highlands in Pahang state, authorities said on Wednesday.

At around 1:15 p.m. local time on Wednesday, the van with 14 passengers on board was descending from Genting Highlands, Pahang Fire and Rescue Department director Wan Mohammad Zaidi Wan Isa told the state news agency Bernama.

Eight others were injured in the accident and the victims were taken to the Bentong Hospital and Selayang Hospital, said Wan Mohammad.

Malaysia contributes medicine worth RM227,984 to Ukraine

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), Feb 7 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysian government through the Ministry of Health (MOH) on Tuesday contributed medical aid worth RM227,984 (US$53,033) to the government of Ukraine.

Malaysia’s Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa handed over the aid, which consists of medicines containing Levothyroxine Sodium 100 mcg tablets, Fentanyl Citrate 50mcg/millilitre (ml) in 2ml injections, Amikacin 250mg/ml in 2ml injections and Propofol 10mg/ml injection, to Charge d’affaires of Ukraine Embassy in Malaysia Denys Mykhailiuk.

Malaysian FM to attend ASEAN Coordinating council, Foreign Ministers’ Retreat in Jakarta

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), Feb 2 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysian Foreign Minister Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, will lead the country’s delegation to the 32nd ASEAN Coordinating Council (ACC) Meeting and ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ (AMM) Retreat from Feb 3 to 4, 2023 in Jakarta, Indonesia. 

Indonesia helms the Chairmanship of ASEAN in 2023 with the theme “ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth”.

The Foreign Ministry (Wisma Putra) in a statement Thursday said Indonesia is expected to brief the meetings on its proposed key priorities and deliverables for 2023.
