KHARTOUM, May 23 (NNN-AGENCIES) — One of only two women on Sudan’s ruling Sovereignty Council said she had resigned, accusing the military-dominated transitional government of ignoring civilian voices.

The 14-member military-civilian council was set up along with a cabinet of technocrats to steer Sudan through a transition after the army toppled long-serving autocrat Omar al-Bashir in 2019 following months of popular protests.

05 May 2021; MEMO: Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki yesterday arrived in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, for fresh mediation efforts aimed at resolving the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, local media reported.

KHARTOUM, Apr 24 (NNN-SUNA) – Sudan yesterday threatened to sue the Italian company, implementing the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) and the Ethiopian government, if the second filling of the dam is conducted without a legal deal.

“In case the second filling is conducted without reaching a legal deal, Sudan has legal teams, supported by international law offices, that will file lawsuits against the Italian implementing company and the Ethiopian government,” Sudanese Irrigation and Water Resources Minister, Yasir Abbas twitted.

24 Apr 2021; MEMO: Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok has cancelled the construction of the Dal and Kajbar dams north of the country, in response to local rejection of the projects previously approved by the regime of ousted President Omar Al-Bashir.

23 Apr 2021; MEMO: Sudanese authorities yesterday referred dozens of intelligence officers to retirement. A high-ranking official source told local media that the government had fired a total of 131 intelligence officers, "three of whom were lieutenant generals, 25 brigaders, 40 brigadier-generals, and 63 colonels."

 22 Apr 2021; MEMO: A member of Sudan's Transitional Sovereignty Council ruled out on Wednesday the possibility of resorting to the military option to resolve border and water issues. The latter includes the matter of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.

KHARTOUM, Apr 22 (NNN-SUNA) – Sudan and Libya yesterday voiced their keenness, to enhance bilateral ties, develop cooperation and work together to support stability in the two countries and the region.

Chairman of Sudan’s Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, yesterday received a phone call from Chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed al-Menfi, the sovereign council said in a statement.

The two leaders reviewed the progress of bilateral relations and regional and international issues of mutual concerns, according to the statement.
