India: UP govt bans cattle trade with 4 states due to Lumpy disease; restricts movement of animals in some dists

Lucknow, Sep 23 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh government has banned cattle trade with four neighbouring states and also imposed a "lockdown" on the intrastate movement of animals from 28 districts to prevent the spread of lumpy skin disease, Animal Husbandry Minister Dharampal Singh said Friday.

He said the lumpy skin disease has spread to animals in 14 states of the country and it is "fatal to animals like coronavirus" is to human.

India: Pitbull injuries cow in Kanpur's Sarsaiya ghat

 Kanpur: A Pitbull dog has now attacked a cow in here. The municipal authorities asked the dog owner to show the dog`s licence.

A viral video shows a dog attacking a cow in the Sarsaia Ghat area here. The ferocious dog is seen clinging to the cow`s jaw.

The owner of the cow rescued the animal after repeatedly hitting the Pitbull with a stick.

Later, as the video went viral, the Kanpur Municipal Authorities took hold of the dog and put it in a cage. 

The cow that suffered a serious injury in the jaw, was sent to a veterinary hospital.

India: Showers bring water logging in Kanpur city's areas

Kanpur: With 93% clouds in the sky there continues to maintain the possibility of a downpour.

Today there has rained two times. It went on for a considerable length of time. However, the humidity prevails still.

Rains have been occurring for the past several days. Water logging on the roads has heightened people's woes.

The roads are beset with potholes filled with rainwater. This troubles road users as they fail to realise the depth. 

Students are aggrieved as their exams are being held. They yearn that there should not occur showers in the morning. 

India: Dalit rape victim set on fire dies of burns in UP's Lucknow

Pilibhit (UP), Sep 19 (PTI) A Dalit girl, who was allegedly burnt after rape by two men in Madhotanda area here, succumbed to her injuries at a hospital in Lucknow on Monday, 12 days after the incident.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Dinesh Kumar Prabhu said that the victim died during treatment at the King George Medical University hospital in Lucknow. The relatives took her body and left for their village after post mortem, he said.

Adequate police force has been deployed in the village as a precautionary measure.

India: Kanpur university students demand correction in results

Kanpur: The CSJMU students are enraged at the disparity in the results.

Reacting to the matter Dr Anil Mishra, Controller of Examinations of the University, said that the students feeling discrepancies in their results should register their problems at the Grievances' Cell.

He also added that their problems will be solved according to the rules of the university. If there is a need to review their results, they will also be reviewed. Copies will also be rechecked.

India: Court rejects former Union minister and BJP leader Chinmayanand's plea against his arrest warrant in a sexual abuse case

Shahjahanpur (UP), Sep 17 (PTI) A court here rejected the plea of former Union minister Swami Chinmayanand Saraswati against his arrest warrant in a case of sexual abuse.

The case was lodged by one of his disciples. Swamy had sought a stay on his arrest warrant, citing his eye operation.

The MP-MLA Court's special advocate Neelima Saxena told PTI on Saturday that the arrest warrant was issued two months ago.

India: Man awarded life term for abducting, raping girl in UP

Muzaffarnagar, Sep 17 (PTI) A special court in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for abducting and raping a 15-year-old girl.

Special POCSO court judge Mumtaz Ali also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the convict.

On September 9, 2020, the girl was abducted from her house and raped for two days by the man, district government counsel Sanjay Chouhan said on Saturday.

After sexual assault, the convict had left the girl in a locality near her house, he said.

India: Jajmau tanneries shut down as dirty water falls into river

Kanpur: All 213 tanneries in Jajmau have been closed with immediate effect after the irrigation channel of the purification plant broke down. This decision has been initiated to save the Ganga from polluted water.

This closure of tanneries will continue till further orders. Violation of closure order will cause registering of FIR and seizure.

The gate of the irrigation channel was shattered on the night of Thursday and Friday. The water started going to the river.

India: NGT directs UP govt to pay Rs 100 crore for improper liquid waste management

New Delhi, Sep 16 (PTI) The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the Uttar Pradesh government to pay Rs 100 crore for improper management of liquid waste in the districts of Pratapgarh, Raebareli, and Jaunpur.

A bench headed by chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel said that as per the report of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), bio-remediation was not resulting in the reduction of pollution load.

India: Kanpur's weather turns pleasant as showers continue

Kanpur: Rain continues in many areas of the city and its adjoining areas since Wednesday morning. From morning till late afternoon, 34.6 mm of rain has fallen.

Jajmaites are comfortable that rain lashes their humid areas after long. The weather has totally changed. The continuity in rain continues till evening.

The air is now colder. Ceiling fans are giving the feel of ACs, say the residents. The students are the most troubled due to erratic rains.
