India: Constable suspended for stealing mobile in Kanpur's Maharajpur

Kanpur: A police constable was suspended for stealing the mobile phone of a youth sleeping in front of his shop in the Maharajpur area here on Sunday, news reports said here.

The action was taken after a video of the constable went viral on social media.

Police sources said Nitin Singh, a resident of Chhatmara, owns a shop in the village. He was sleeping in front of his shop on Saturday night.

Constable along with a Home Guard, was on picket duty stole the mobile of rural shop owner.

India: 12-girl-old rape victim gives birth to boy in UP's Meerut

Meerut (UP), Oct 8 (PTI) A 12-year-old alleged rape victim from Ghaziabad gave birth to a baby boy at the medical college here, an official said on Saturday.

The medical college administration confirmed that the mother and the child were healthy.

The girl, who lives in Ghaziabad's Khoda police station area, was admitted to the medical college on October 1 and she gave birth through C-Section, medical college principal Dr RK Gupta said.

The girl is a Class 7 student.

India: Bodies of 3 women found floating in dam in UP's Jhansi

Jhansi (UP), Oct 9 (PTI) Bodies of three women were fished out of a dam here, with police saying they may have been swept away in Tikamgarh district of bordering Madhya Pradesh, police said.

Information about a body floating in the Saprar dam was received from an irrigation department employee of Mauranipur late Saturday, Senior Superintendent of Police Rajesh S said.

He said the body was fished out and it appeared to be that of a woman aged around 25.

India: Dalit girl raped in Amethi

Amethi (UP), Oct 9 (PTI) A 15-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly raped by a man in a village in Jamo area here, police said on Sunday.

The incident took place on October 3 when the man looking after music arrangements in a Durga puja pandal raped her in the field when she went to attend nature's call, they said.

SHO, Jamo, Akhilesh Gutpa said an FIR has been lodged under IPC section 376 (rape), SC/ST Atrocities Prevention Act and POCSO Act.

The accused identified as Monu has been arrested, he said.

Kanpur Court employees stage dharna demanding security

Kanpur: Employees working in Kanpur court started a ruckus on Friday morning demanding security.

After the sloganeering, work in all courts and offices came to a standstill. Judicial staff gathered in the verandah of the new building and sat on a dharna raising their demands.

During this, there was confusion among the litigants. Due to the uproar, all judicial work came to a standstill.

Staff leaders say that the provincial union has been informed about the incident. Only after his instructions, further course will be decided.

India: 19-year-old raped, murdered in UP

Mainpuri (UP), Oct 6 (PTI) A 19-year-old BSc student was allegedly raped and murdered in her house at a village under the Bhogaon police station area on Wednesday, police said.

The student was alone in her house when the incident took place, police said, adding that it came to light only when her younger sister returned from school.

As she knocked at the door, a 20-year-old accused opened it and ran outside.

India: Five seriously injured in a truck-auto road accident in Kanpur

Kanpur: Five people were seriously injured in a road accident here on Thursday morning. A speeding truck hit an auto near the Majharia intersection.

Police reached the spot and took the injured to the hospital by ambulance.

The mishap occurred in the Naubasta police station area.w speeding truck hit an auto r the Majharia intersection.

In this accident, five people of the auto were buried under the damaged auto.

Relief and rescue work are being initiated. All the stranded people are being removed and sent for the medical treatment.

India: Rains dampen Dussehra spirit in Kanpur

Kanpur: Since morning the showers are lashing in the city and its joining areas. The continuous rains with slight breaks and winds have definitely dampened the Dussehra spirits here.

Videos from different parts of the city  show rain-soaked Ravana effigies.

A video from Govind Nagar Park shows other affected effigies and muddy waterholes on the Ravana effigy burning venue.

Another video from the Parade Ground, shows a tilted Ravana effigy amid heavy rains. However, an effigy of decorated Ravana was also seen standing in the verandah of the house in Jajmau area.

India: Doctor arrested for raping woman in UP

Basti (UP), Oct 4 (PTI) A doctor was arrested for allegedly raping a woman here, police said on Tuesday.

The woman filed a complaint with the police stating that the doctor, posted at a hospital in the Basti Sadar Kotwali area, befriended her on social media and asked her to visit him, they said.

When she visited the hospital, the doctor took her to his hostel room where he and his two colleagues, who are also doctors, raped her, police said quoting the complainant.
