India: SC to pass orders on plea against interim bail to ex-UP minister in gang rape case

New Delhi, Oct 13 (PTI) The Supreme Court on Tuesday said that it would pass orders on October 15 on a plea of Uttar Pradesh government challenging the interim bail of two months granted to gang rape accused and former state minister Gayatri Prasad Prajapati on medical grounds by the Allahabad High Court.

The verdict was reserved by a bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan, R Subhash Reddy and M R Shah which heard the arguments of Additional Solicitor General ASV Raju on behalf of the Uttar Pradesh government and senior advocate Rajeev Dhavan, who represented Prajapati.

India: UP govt official found dead

Lucknow, Oct 13 (PTI) The body of an Uttar Pradesh official who was missing for the past four days was found at a government building here on Tuesday, police said.

Naseem Akhtar, 43, of the Estate Department was deputed at the OCR building and resided on the 11th floor. His body was found in the duct on the second floor, Hussainganj police station incharge Dinesh Singh Bisht said.

India: UP govt trying to save culprits of Hathras rape, murder: AAP MP

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Oct 13 (PTI) Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh on Tuesday accused the Uttar Pradesh government of trying to save the culprits in the Hathras case and demanded that the CBI inquiry be monitored by the Supreme Court.

Singh, who was in Muzaffarnagar for a party meeting, told reporters that the state government was trying to weaken the case by "destroying" evidence.

India: Bikers fined for bad driving on Ganga Barrage road

Kanpur: Several bike riders had faced penalty while driving dangerously on Ganga Barrage road here on Tuesday.

The SP (Traffic) Basant Lal along with the team conducted a drive against stunting bikers. This campaign covered Rawatpur, Phoolbagh, Bada Chauraha, Narona crossing, Kalyanpur and others.

Driving without wearing a helmet also brought penalty to the scooty and motorcycle drivers.

India: 19-yr-old woman raped in UP's Bhadohi

Bhadohi (UP), Oct 12 (PTI) A 19-year-old woman was allegedly raped by an employee of a carpet factory here, police said on Monday.

The matter came to light on Saturday when the woman got ill and her family members took her to a hospital, where it was found that she was three months pregnant, Superintendent of Police Ram Badan Singh said.

The 22-year-old accused would take the woman to the factory and rape her several times, Singh said.

India: Uninterrupted power supply adjusts weather rage

Kanpur: Unhealthy air quality and hazy sunshine pervaded on Tuesday evening. The temperature continued to dangle between 36 degrees and 33 degrees Celsius. Warm weather disturbs the denizens extremely here.

Strangely enough, the real feel of the hot weather at 5 p.m. today remained at 34° Celsius with 48% indoor humidity as was reported by the weather department.

It remains pretty disturbing weather; even the mosquitoes were buzzing before the sun has not gone for rest. 

India: Hathras victim's family appears before high court

Lucknow, Oct 12 (PTI) Family members of the 19-year-old Dalit woman, who died after allegedly being raped by four men in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras district last month, appeared before the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court on Monday.

The family comprising the victim's father, mother and three brothers was brought amid tight security from Hathras earlier in the day.

India: Fire destroys 15 shops of Baqarganj market in Kanpur

Kanpur: As many as 15 grocery shops were gutted down in a massive fire at Baqarganj in Babupurwa area here on Saturday late night.

Leaping flames prompted locals to alert the Fire Brigade and the Police departments respectively. The flame soon took other shops into its ferocious, fiery grip.

About one dozen Fire tenders struggled several hours to douse the fire, said reports.

Most of the affected shopkeepers demanded police to ascertain the specific cause of the fire. 

Police also said quoting the shopkeepers that a loss of Rs 50 lakh was estimated.
