Uzbekistan gets 275 mln USD loan for rural development project

TASHKENT, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and the OPEC Fund for International Development agreed to provide loans worth 275 million U.S. dollars on rural development in Uzbekistan, a presidential decree said Tuesday.

A loan of 200 million dollars will come from the IsDB, the OPEC Fund for International Development will allocate 75 million dollars, and Uzbekistan will also contribute 60 million dollars to the project, according to the decree.

Pakistan supports inclusive govt in Afghanistan, FM tells Uzbek counterpart

TASHKENT, Aug 25 (APP): Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Wednesday emphasizing Pakistan’s support for an inclusive political setup in Afghanistan said that peace in the country would bring stability in the region, promote trade and facilitate people to people linkages.

It was therefore important that neighbours of Afghanistan coordinate closely on the situation in Afghanistan, he added.

The Foreign Minister expressed these views during the meeting with his Uzbek counterpart Abdulaziz Kamilov here in the capital of Uzbekistan.

Uzbek President Mirziyoyev set to run for second term

TASHKENT, Aug 7 (Reuters) - Uzbekistan’s ruling Liberal Democratic party plans to nominate President Shavkat Mirziyoyev as its candidate in the Oct. 24 election, the party said on Saturday.

Mirziyoyev, 64, is widely expected to run for a second term, and win, but has so far made no comment on his plans. He came to power in 2016 following the death of Islam Karimov, the Central Asian nation's former Soviet leader and first president.

Uzbekistan to boost cooperation with Russia in protecting children’s rights — official

TASHKENT, August 4. /TASS/: Uzbekistan is determined to boost cooperation with Russia in protecting children’s rights, Uzbek Children's Rights Commissioner Alia Yunusova said on Wednesday.

"We need to preserve what was created through cooperation in the field of child protection. We are ready to further boost this multifaceted cooperation," she pointed out, addressing an online conference dubbed "Protection of Children’s Rights: Cooperation between Russia and Uzbekistan," which also involved Children’s Rights Commissioner for the Russian President Anna Kuznetsova.

Qureshi, Zalmay Khalilzad discuss evolving Afghan situation

TASHKENT (Uzbekistan), July 16 (APP): Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad met Friday and discussed the evolving situation in Afghanistan following the withdrawal of foreign troops.

EU's foreign policy chief to visit Uzbekistan for Central, South Asia connectivity forum

TASHKENT, July 14 (Xinhua) -- The High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell will visit Uzbekistan this week to attend an international forum on connectivity between Central and South Asia, the EU delegation in Uzbekistan said Tuesday.

The forum, scheduled for July 15-16 in the Uzbek capital,`will discuss regional trade, economic, transport and communications ties between Central and South Asia, as well as the security and stability in the region.
