NEW YORK (AP) — President Donald Trump said he will take action as soon as Saturday to ban TikTok, a popular Chinese-owned video app that has been a source of national security and censorship concerns.

Trump’s comments came after published reports that the administration is planning to order China’s ByteDance to sell TikTok. There were also reports Friday that software giant Microsoft is in talks to buy the app.

“As far as TikTok is concerned, we’re banning them from the United States,” Trump told reporters Friday on Air Force One as he returned from Florida.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House and its GOP allies appear to be retreating from their opposition to a $600-per-week supplemental unemployment benefit that has propped up the economy and family budgets but expired Friday.

President Donald Trump is eager to extend the benefit, undercutting his GOP allies on Capitol Hill who have spent considerable effort devising an alternative that could unite Republicans.

ROME, Aug 1 (NNN-AGENCIES) – Italian-American automaker, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), posted net losses of one billion euros (1.18 billion U.S. dollars), in the second quarter (Q2) this year, the company said, yesterday.

FCA said, it shipped 424,000 vehicles worldwide in Q2, down by 63 percent, compared to the same period last year, due to COVID-19 pandemic-related production stoppages and demand disruptions.

The automaker added, it secured a three-year, 6.3-billion-euro credit facility with Intesa Sanpaolo, one of Italy’s major banking groups.

TEHRAN, Aug 1 (NNN-TASNIM) – Iran’s defence ministry said, the Etka Company, affiliated with the ministry, opened Iran’s first supermarket in Venezuela’s capital, Caracas, yesterday.

The supermarket, called Megasis, offers more than 2,500 Iranian products, including food, clothing, detergents, plastic and disposable products, nuts and even tractors.

It was built on a land of 20,000 square metres, with the purpose of boosting production and export of Iranian commodities.

NEW DELHI, Aug 1 (NNN-UNI) – India yesterday extended the ban on international flights till Aug 31, said an official statement.

However, travel will take place under the “travel bubbles,” which the country has created with some countries like Germany, the United States and France, added the statement.

New Delhi, Jul 31 (PTI) Contracting for the fourth consecutive month, the output of eight core infrastructure industries shrank by 15 per cent in June due to fall in the production of coal, crude oil, natural gas, steel, cement and electricity.

The eight core sectors had expanded by 1.2 per cent in June 2019, data released by the Commerce and Industry Ministry on Friday showed.

Barring fertiliser, all seven sectors - coal, crude oil, natural gas, refinery products, steel, cement, and electricity - had recorded negative growth in May.

Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 31 (PTI): In a new initiative, jail inmates in Kerala will man three fuel outlets which have come up adjacent to three prisons in the state.

The scheme, jointly launchedby Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and the Jail department at the Thiruvananthapuram and Viyyur central jails and Chemeni open prison, was inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinaryi Vijayan through video conferencing on Thursday.

One more outlet will come up at the Kannur central prison.

BEIJING (AP) — China’s manufacturing activity edged up in July and export orders strengthened despite weak U.S. and European demand, a survey showed Friday, in fresh signs the world’s second-largest economy is gradually recovering from the coronavirus pandemic.

The monthly purchasing managers’ index issued by the Chinese statistics bureau and an industry group rose to 51.1 from June’s 50.9 on a 100-point scale. Numbers above 50 show activity increasing.
