Israel bars entry of warm clothes into unheated cells of Palestinian detainees

27 Jan 2022; MEMO: Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails are suffering from the cold due to a lack of heating, along with authorities' blocking of donations of winter clothes, a Palestinian official body said Thursday, and Anadolu News Agency reports.

"All detainees suffer from shortages of clothes and blankets and the lack of heating means that could protect them from the cold weather," the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO)-run Commission for Detainees and Ex-Detainees' Affairs said in a statement.

Bowing to pressure from the international community, Israel may relocate Khan Al-Ahmar 300 metres away

The option comes in light of the continued pressure from the international community and the International Criminal Court's (ICC) warning that the eviction and displacement of the Palestinian residents amounts to a war crime, reported Channel 12.

Serbia extradites Bahrain opposition figure

26 Jan 2022; MEMO: The Serbian authorities have extradited a Bahrain opposition figure to Manama despite an injunction issued by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), the Guardian has reported. Ahmed Jaafar Muhammad Ali, 48, was sentenced in absentia to life in prison in 2013 for alleged terrorist activities.

Human rights groups have accused Bahrain of seeking to suppress dissent in the kingdom through such allegations. Popular protests have taken place there since the Arab Spring started in 2011.

Germany: federal court rules anti-BDS policy to be 'unconstitutional'

26 Jan 2022; MEMO: Biden has authorised a $2.5 billion arms sale to Egypt as the country's human rights violations spiral out of control.

The announcement comes as a video spread online showing scenes of torture within a police station in Cairo confirming what rights defenders have said for years – that torture of prisoners in Egypt is systematic and widespread.
