Israel insists it will not ease siege imposed on Gaza

22 June 2021; MEMO: Israeli Defence Minister Benny Gantz pledged on Monday that the besieged Gaza Strip, the tiny enclave that is home to more than 2 million Palestinians, will not be "economically rehabilitated" without the return of the Israelis held captive "and without security stability", AP has reported.

German FM urges EU to update migrant deal with Turkey

21 June 2021; MEMO: German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas called on the European Union to update its migrant deal with Turkey, as he highlighted the importance of further funding, Die Welt reports.

"We need an update to our migration cooperation with Turkey," Maas told the paper in comments published today.

The EU is very interested in the migration deal with Ankara being further developed and updated, Maas added.

Turkish Red Crescent opens largest logistics centre in Gaza

21 June 2021; MEMO: The Head of the Turkish Red Crescent Society, Kerem Kinik, arrived in the Gaza Strip on Sunday to evaluate the humanitarian situation after the latest Israeli military offensive and to hold talks on the needs of the Palestinians in the besieged enclave. He was met at the Erez Crossing by orphans from Al Amal Orphanage in Gaza waving Turkish flags in gratitude at Turkey's support.

UAE dissident dies in London car crash, Abu Dhabi's plot suspected

21 June 2021; MEMO: Gulf rights activists announced the death of prominent Emirati dissident Alaa Al-Siddiq in a car crash in Britain, where she resides, amid questions whether the accident was deliberate.

The news was confirmed by members of her family and Emirati oppositionists.

The London-based Emirati academic and dissident Ahmed Al-Shaiba Al-Nuaimi said that Al-Siddiq died in a car crash, without revealing further details.

India: Prisoner found dead in UP's Muzaffarnagar jail

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Jun 21 (PTI) An undertrial prisoner lodged in the district jail here was found hanging in his barracks on Monday, police said.

Shahid, who was arrested last year in a case, is suspected to have died by suicide early morning, Jailor Kamlesh Singh told PTI.

The jailor said the body has been sent for a post-mortem and an investigation is on.

India: IUML hits out at proposed two-child norm of Assam govt

Guwahati, Jun 20 (PTI) The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) on Sunday condemned the Assam government's proposed population policy and termed it "anti-secular and unconstitutional".

The party also hit out at Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for advocating a two-child norm for availing benefits under specific state government schemes and exempting certain communities from it.
