Israel to build camps as preparation for displacing Arab citizens

8 Oct 2019; MEMO: Israel’s District Planning and Building Committee considered a plan on Sunday submitted by the Bedouin Settlement Authority in the Negev which aims to build camps as preparation for the displacement of 36,000 Arab citizens, Arab48.com has reported. The plan targets Palestinian-Arab residents within Israel who live in Bedouin villages “unrecognised” by the Israeli occupation government.

India: Activists protest over sedition case against celebrities

Jaipur, Oct 7 (PTI) Activists, theatre artists and filmmakers staged a protest in the Pink city on Monday over registration of a sedition case against 49 celebrities after they had expressed concern over rising incidents of mob lynching in an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

They condemned the filing of the case against celebrities like Aparna Sen, Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Ramchandra Guha, Mani Ratnam, Anurag Kashyap and Revathi.

India: 14-yr-old girl raped, strangled to death in UP's Shamli

Muzaffarnagar, Oct 8 (PTI) A 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped and strangled to death in Shamli district, police said on Tuesday.

According to Circle Officer Rajesh Kumar Tiwari, the girl's body was found in an agricultural field in Kailshikapur village, which comes under the jurisdiction of Gahripukhta police station, on Monday evening.

He said it appeared that she was strangulated to death with her 'dupatta' after rape.

French PM open to idea of quotas for migrants

PARIS, Oct 8 (NNN-AGENCIES) — French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe said he was not opposed to introducing quotas for migrants, part of an effort by his government to heed voters’ concerns about immigration that are being seized upon by political rivals.

The government, closely allied to President Emmanuel Macron, is walking a political tightrope because it is under pressure too from its own supporters who opposed any measures they view as pandering to the far-right.

M’sia, Pakistan, Turkey planning a TV channel to counter Islamophobia

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Discussions to set up an English language channel – proposed by Pakistan, Turkey and Malaysia to counter Islamophobia – have begun, with a technical meeting held between Pakistan and Turkey.

Turkish Ambassador to Malaysia Merve Safa Kavakci said Turkey’s Presidential Communications Director Fahrettin Altun had led a delegation to a meeting with Pakistani representatives on the matter last week. 

PA calls for UN to hold Israel accountable for its crimes

7 Oct 2019; MEMO: The Palestinian Authority (PA) yesterday said that it would continue calling for the UN to hold the Israeli occupation accountable for its crimes against Palestinians.

A statement by the PA’s Foreign Ministry said: “The international community is demanded to hold the Israeli occupation accountable and bring it to justice for its crimes instead of turning a blind eye to the daily Israeli violations.”

US Senate proposes draft law against PA, PLO

6 Oct 2019; MEMO: US Congress is discussing a draft bill that holds the Palestinian Authority (PA) and Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO) accountable for the killing and injuring of Israeli Jewish settlers who hold American passports, Arabi21 reported yesterday.

The bill was introduced by the Republican Senators James Lankford, Tammy Duckworth and Democrat Chuck Grassley, under the title “Justice for Victims of Terrorism”.

India: Gang-rape victim commits suicide in UP

Muzaffarnagar, Oct 6 (PTI) A gang-rape victim has committed suicide at Behdi village here by hanging herself from the ceiling of her house after being allegedly harassed by her assaulters to withdraw the case against them, police said.

The 24-year-old woman has also written the names of the accused on her hand before committing the suicide on Saturday evening under Chapar police station area in the district.

The woman was raped by three men about an year ago and the accused were on bail since then, police said.
